floating dot reticles vs fine cross hair reticle in a 4-25 range scope. Never had a fine dot reticle on a rifle . For a RPR for long distance shooting, maybe match shooting AND since scope will cost an arm and a leg, useful also on a hunting rifle.

How well does the dot work in poor light (rain, snowing, smoke from forest fires in the mountains, etc.

Thanks!

I have done long range shooting with a dot Reticle. I found it great shooting in very controlled target environments with solid coloured target backings.

However though, that quickly dissapeared when shooting in areas with dark contrasts and variable backgrounds and when tracking a moving target. It is slower to acquire as well.

I'd go for it for target but it may be a hindrance for active LR shooting like PRS or hunting in an area with rough backgrounds.

As long as you have a light background to contrast the dot it is pretty good but dark or drab backgrounds make it harder. Like the broadside of a deer or bear

What reticles do you have in mind?

Floating dot as in a Sightron LRMOA reticle? I like that ret quite a bit. Works very well. But long range shooting you rarely get a center hold.

I really like the NF MOAR reticle. I wish my NXS had one rather then NPR1.

The Vortex EBR2B is complete garbage. It looked great until I got out shooting and used it for holding off for both drop and wind. Then you realize they put the numbers for elevation right where you might hold for wind. (maybe some people are quicker to pick up on this though. lol)

I have never seen any of the Kahles reticles so I can't help you there.

EDIT: I finally found them on their website. The SKMR1 and SKMR3 look really good. I would like to try the SKMR3.
