I picked up a Vortex spotting scope (angled eyepiece) a while back that I plan on using 90% at the range. It came with a cheap-o neoprene type cover, but it doesn't look like it would offer any protection. My range bag is a backpack, so I'm looking for some kind of padded case that would attach to the side of the backpack with MOLLE or inside the backpack with velcro. The alternative would be get a hard plastic case, like a Pelican/Storm case or something similar.
I tried a Velocity Systems padded case from DS Tactical, but it was about two inches too short. I think I need something about 14" in length.
Looking at this, but it's not cheap and seems like it might be overkill. https://www.pelican.com/us/en/product/cases/storm/im2306
How are you guys carrying your spotting scopes to the range? Am I being too paranoid about dropping or damaging it by just slinging it into my backpack? I'm generally very careful with my stuff, but Murphy's law always happens.
