I have been using the included eyes and ear protection at my local gun range. Thinking about buying my own. Can anyone please recommend a store in the lower mainland Vancouver area? Seems that every shop I visit has really limited selection. Also are ear plugs better or ear muffs? Thanks in advance

Sorry, cannot help you with stores. I think however that there are lots of places selling hearing protection asides from gun stores. Check the yellow pages under Safety Equipment or similar. If you really get stuck, call a local audiologist's office; I'm sure they can make a suggestion.

A good fact source on hearing protection: http://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/prevention/ppe/ear_prot.html

I find earmuffs more comfortable, but that's a personal choice. One thing about muffs is that they have to fit against the head. You'll see guys on the range wearing muffs over a hat or cap, with part of the muff riding up over the hat. They're losing protection that way.

If I'm outdoors, I prefer plugs. Mine are custom fit and are infinitely more comfortable in the heat of the day. When I'm RO'ing with IPSC, I wear electronic muffs so I can hear what the hell is going on. Indoors is muff all the time. Most ranges have concrete walls that seem to amplify the report.

Acklands Grainger is probably your best bet, they deal with industrial safety equipment and have a larger selection compared to a sporting goods store.
