So one of my kids is responsible for assigning work for a construction firm in N AB. September is a busy time for them. One of their new employees asked for a week off in late September. When asked why, he said he wanted to go home and hunt with his family. The other younger workers were all offended that he hunts! My kid sat in the meeting and immediately said, Sure, and penciled in his time off. Good on ya, I thought...

I had a boss like that back when we were building bridges for forestry/LNG
and I always made sure to bring him a choice roast :D

I thought everyone in Alberta was a manly man who hunts? Thumps his chest with a fistful of 300 magnum shells and moose quiver at his belches? You mean theres people out west who are offended by hunting?

Young guys . . . in northern Alberta . . . offended that one of their co-workers hunts!!?? What is the world coming to? Anyway, good on your boy for looking after his crew.

Those aren't north-western boys! Guaranteed transplants. The odd man out is he has hasn't, or doesn't hunt.

They come from the east and south to work.

I'd be curious where the guys offended by the concept of hunting were from.

Who said they couldn't be from Alberta? Wow, by post #8 this thread is already hijacked so some guys can get their pokes in on other areas that aren't theirs. Way to go.

How do you figure that is a hijack??? The discussion relates directly to the OP's post...

And those anti-hunting types sure sound like urbanites to me also... good on your son nw mb!

I work in and around northern Alberta and most of the guys I work with are young. Hunting is a common pass time for many. I can't see many worksites around here with young guys where anyone would be offended by the thought of hunting.

Read mine again champ, I'm saying those aren't folks from north-western Canada. If they're offended by the real world like hunting, they are clearly from outside the region.

When I started at my current job I asked about time off for hunting. The only thing they said was book it off early, cause everyone wants a bit of time off during the season...

My thoughts exactly? I have not met many people here in AB or SK that do not hunt. Only exception is some city kids I have worked with from Edmonton so far and they never got offended. In fact they thought the idea was quite cool and asked a lot of questions about how to get into it.
