I have a flintlock coming to me while I wait on my PAL .
I have a question for knowledge base here. If firing this flintlock at a range and I just loaded powder and ball and a stop firing is called. How to i go about Proving this gun ????
Do I extract the ball ,which would take some time. I am very curious as what would be the proper procedure to call this gun safe .
Thanks

No priming powder would be one. Telling the RO your rifle is loaded would be a good idea too.
Ran into this long ago on a range. The RO had the guys fire the shot. Mind you, I had to tell the RO the guys were loaded. Knew one of the guys too. He should have known better.

In most cases a ML is only considered loaded when there is a source of ignition be it a cap or primer powder, at my club if a cease fire is called the shooter will let the RO know the state of the gun and sometimes the range will be temporarly reopened to take the last shot.

on our ranges in nova scotia, when we call range closed, you step back from the bench and arent allowed to touch the gun till the range is clear again, no matter if its loaded ..half loaded or unloaded, and always muzzle up.

A flintlock is consider safe if you just take out the percussion cap or there is no primer in the lock, even if the barrel is loaded.

In the hypothetical situation described, I would:
Dump the priming.
Leave the pan open.
Put the gun down.
Tell the RO.
Then proceed according to the RO's instructions.
I would NOT go down range if there were an unprimed ml gun on the line with a charge in the barrel.
Pulling a load can be problematic.
If the situation permits, the safest, fastest and easiest way to unload a ml rifle is to fire it.
A flintlock gun can fire without priming. If the lock is a good sparker, and particularly if the touchole is on the generous side, the gun can fire if the lock is snapped.
