The M4 is a fun gun that I like a lot but one that can always stand some major and minor improvements. The major one for me was to get an 'oversized' charging handle to replace the too-small one that comes standard. That pinchy and sharp edged little bugger was removing the skin from my index finger even during the break in period and it was a big relief to get the standard larger replacement. I really don't know what Benelli's thought is on the matter but they ain't changing what they supply as standard, even though other of their black shotguns have larger ones. At the same time as I ordered the new handle, and here's the problem with ordering online, I bought what was supposed to be an "oversized" safety switch because why not, but when it came it was just a standard one... I still have it because it would have cost me as much to mail back as it did to buy it.

The kind of things I'm looking at now are light mounts and lights and I'm wondering what people have that worked out well. Of course there's the question of optics, not something I've ever felt a need for on a shotgun but I seems I might as well start stripping some toys off my AR, an Aimpoint PRO for instance, as long as it will co-witness with the M4's ghost ring sights. I know the PRO at least will stand up to the added recoil of a 12 G.

Any further thoughts about good mods and add ons will be appreciated.

All sorts of do-dads on this 14" M4 Entry. The best upgrades for my money are the GG&G oversized Charging Handle and their Extended Bolt Release Tab. Wolverine Supplies carries GG&G. The "Hayle Rail" also isn't a bad way to add some functionality to the Handguard, along with the "Match-Saver" spare round carrier ahead of the Ejection Port..

Aside from that, it is a free-for-all when it comes to short-range reflex/holographic optics, lights, lasers and so on/so forth.

Interesting you got a shell carrier to go on the telescoping stock.

Mine came with the telescoping stock, I found the best position length for me was the spot where it takes down, I ended up replacing it with the field stock and it is way more comfortable. I do not think you will be able to co-witness your sight with the irons unless you replace the rail, Scalarworks I believe is the company that makes a rail that will allow you to cowitness with the irons. I picked up the S&J combat charging handle and it has worked well + Canadian made. I use the S&J light mount that replaces the front sling loop and it works okay except it rotational play that I do not like so I may one day replace it.

I used a stick on velcro on the side of the receiver and a shotgun card to hold my shells, its much nicer than a standard bolt on carrier as you can quickly replace the card with a full one, or store it in the safe with the card off so it takes up less room. I have been looking at the extended bolt releases, and it is a worth while upgrade for sure. I just havn't found one that I really like yet. I am mostly worried about something getting stuck behind the extended tab and not allowing it to get pressed in completely, or break off as it is only a small bolt holding it in (Some require you to drill and tap the OEM button). If it breaks off atleast you can still press the button, but maybe someone with more experience with the extended bolt releases can chime in.

Another must have upgrade is the +1 magazine extension. Get rid of that ugly OEM piece. If you want to spend the big bucks there is a company out there who makes a replacement tube for the clean 1 peice look. I forget who they are now as I looked into it when I first got my M4 but ended up just getting the +1 extension tube.

I think that heat shield would look cool, and if you combine that with the bayonet mount you would have a pretty rad modern trench gun. I just would not want to carry that beast around with a full tube!

Great, now I really want the heat shield and bayonet mount....

I priced out the RX Arms heat shield and it comes out to around $600 cad delivered... ouch. At least you get to (are required to) upgrade the optic rail to allow for for a cowitnessed optic if that interests some. I am not sure how I feel about the optic mount being aluminum though with the possible added stress from the heat shield, but I am not an engineer so maybe I am just worried about nothing.

It would be nice if RX added a CAD option since they are a Canadian Company
