With the growth of long range shooting and interest in Precision Rifle Series style matches Ken Thiessen of Bulls Eye London and I have teamed up with the Petawawa gun club to run a two and a 1/2 day clinic and mini match if time allows on July 20-22 at CFB Petawawa. Ken and I have been competing in Precision Rifle, PRS and fclass for the past 5 years. We have competed all over the eastern seaboard. In the past 3 years we have run the ORA Precision Rifle program and the Meaford Long Range Steel Challenge.
The format for the weekend will consist of in class instruction on Friday night. Followed by on range time Saturday and Sunday. Space will be limited to 16 shooters for the clinic. We are keeping the numbers low to ensure more one on one training.
The clinic will focus on the basics of PRS shooting, some of the topics that will be covered are :
1.Equipment selection from calibers, stocks/chassis, actions, etc.
2.Scope: lingo, FFP vs SFP, MOA vs Mil, utilizing your reticle, proper set up.
3. Gear: bags, slings, dope holders, packs, binos, etc.
4. Preparing for a match: dry fire, Practice, Mental, etc.
5. Preparing for a stage: dial or hold, make a plan and stick to it.
6. ROing a stage.
7. Solid zeros and chronographed
8. Wind reading basics
9. Ballistic calculators and how to use your Kestrel.
Expect to shoot between 250 to 300 rounds for the weekend. This clinic is for the new PRS shooter that has a solid understanding of rifle fundamentals, D.O.P.E., using your scope turrets, and a willingness to try new things.
I would recommend that you have shot at least one of Tactical Teachers (TT) PR clinic weekends or have similar experience so you can get the most out of this clinic. We will be covering a lot of info so won’t have time to sort out major issues, so make sure your kit is in order.
The cost for the clinic is $300. The Friday in class will start at 530 till 8-9. Saturday and Sunday will be a 730 meet time, till 1630.
