Trying to gauge interest here.
PRS intends to release some new rules for the upcoming season. One of the new things is the introduction of a separate 'Gas Gun' series. If Wild Rose Action Shooters were to host a club level trial match would anyone be interested? You will need a pistol to shoot this series as well. The Following is from the PRS Facebook page.

'PRS Gasser Series Update...As promised, next year we are expanding the PRS to include a separate Gas Gun Series. The final draft of the Rule Book should be complete by the end of next week. In the mean time, here are some of the highly anticipated highlights from the rules:
-There will be three Divisions-Open, Tactical Heavy (.308 Win/7.62 NATO) and Tactical Light (.223 Rem/5.56 NATO). Shooters will be able to shoot in more than one division.
-Scoring will be time plus penalty based. A 30 second penalty will be assessed for any target not impacted either as a result of a miss or failure to engage (no distinction between failure to neutralize and failure to engage; either one is a 30 second penalty). 15 second penalty for any pistol target not impacted and pistol will be highly encouraged but not mandatory. 15 second penalty for impacting a "no-shoot" target.
-No more than 50% of the stages can be unlimited round count.
-At least 25% of the overall targets must be 2 MOA or smaller.
-Max distance will be 800 yards.
-All the other rules regarding safety and sportsmanship will be the same as the main PRS Rules.
Please keep in mind this is not our complete set of rules and they are still tentative at this point but we do not expect any of the above to change.
The season opener will occur sometime in February and will be run by Ryan Castle at CORE. I hope to have the full schedule complete by the first of November. The season will run through mid-October and we will have approximately 12 matches plus the Finale.'

Adam,

Try putting more information on it's location, etc. People who don't know you are probably wondering where this is taking place.

As for involvement, I'd try and event or two.

I have something else on my mind. More of a fun shoot amongst a select few people. I'll make sure the WRAS guys are invited if I do it.

Fair Enough,
This would likely be trialed at the Edson range, where we have been hosting the rest of our traditional PRS matches. Think of it as a '2gun' match with an emphasis on the long range shooting of a carbine, but mixing in CQB and pistol shooting, which may appeal to the 3 gun crowd looking to push it out a little bit. I would also like to see this be done at other ranges as long as we could get range use. Because this divisions proposed maximum distance is 800 yards it opens up the ability to shoot at other ranges, that being said if you are reading this and think your home range would be open to this let me know. If there are any other questions that can be answered please post them and I will do my best to answer them.

I am just interested in getting out to shoot. Are the courses setup for carbines or could you still be somewhat competitive with a bolt gun? Like the idea though.

The gas gun series is geared towards semi auto rifles. WRAS and others around Alberta are doing bolt action type matches, so there are plenty of options to get out and shoot.

I would be interested in more regular PRS type matches. WRAS only hosted two this year and they were awesome. I don't have the money to get into another type of shooting.

If there were gas gun matches I would probably still attend and just try to use my bolt gun.

There are quite a few more, and likely to improve in numbers for 2017 if you don't mind driving.

Some ranges allow camping to reduce costs.

I can't promise anything closer to leduc but therer were 5 matches by my count last year in Alberta.

This year (next I guess - 2017) there will be more - just maybe not that close to Leduc.

It's worth the drive. The WRAS Precision Rifle matches are the most fun I have ever had shooting. And I always have fun shooting!

Thanks for the kind remarks Roddy, Ryan also holds awesome matches at Milo. If your interested in going we do car pool!
