I'm considering strongly an older double barrelled shotgun of the late 1870s black powder cartridge era. This Prussian made damascus external hammmer SxS has an extra lever, (seperate from the opening hinge lever most of us are very familiar with) I believe for cocking the hammers. Does anyone have any expereinces with this setup?
Is it just boot-a@@ simple as it appears or are there unusual worries that outward appearances do not foretell?

Cheers........

apart from the usual; show us a picture request, are you sure that you are not looking at a drilling. If so the extra lever is to select between rifle and shotgun barrels for the right hammer. At the moment it is pretty hard to visualize what you are talking about

The experts are not easily fooled here mooncoon! Yes it's a drilling actually.
The seller's desrciption was a bit off regarding the workings of the action. I'm glad I asked here.
So, is the lever pushed down to select rifle, stays there until you fire & has to be reselected up for the shotgun barrel mooncoon?
Is the rifle cocked seperately & 'automatically' by merely the opening of the hinge action?
