PS90 Import

Hey, so I've been considering a PS90 for awhile now and think I'm going to bite the bullet soon (after I buy my HK45c.) I would like to buy one in the US and have it imported. Does anyone know if there are any restrictions to this? Obviously besides the 50rnd mag. Did a search but didn't find anything.
 
Go to advanced search, type in PS90, then change to titles only, and the important part, change from a week "and newer" to "and older".

Still looking for my first chance to shoot one...

Ahhh, changing it to "older" helped ;) I'll take a look now.

I realize Questar sells them but it looks like, if I can import one, it would save me money.

Big "IF" on that.

Firstly, you'll be paying $1600 for the PS90 Questar sells for $2100. Not too bad, you're saving $500, right? But now comes the requirement to obtain:

1. An import permit to Canada.
2. An Export permit from the U.S.
3. Paying any brokerage and associated border fees.
4. An FFL willing to co-operate and export the rifle once DOS export permits are obtained, as well as make sure that the magazines are limited to 5 rnds.
5. The chance of the export permit being denied (for one of several reasons, including the presence of a Flash Hider, among other features).
6. A several month wait time, more likely 6 months, while the paperwork is done and border cleared, etc.

Questar has already done all of this for you, hence why they charge more for the gun. There is a lot of work that needs to be done in order to import a firearm. If you get the gun and you are unable to obtain an export permit for it, you have $1600 tied up in it, stuck south of the border.

This is assuming that you are not using an import service. If you are, they're often charging $400 or so to handle the paperwork. So you'd basically be waiting 6 months to save $100.

I also forgot that duty and GST may also apply, so you're not even saving taxes.
 
Okay, thanks for the info. I was planning on using Prophet River to do all the paperwork. I know they charge something like $250 for an import. Clay at Prophet River told me that when I import my HK45ct, if the price is $1200 for the gun, the total with all the fee's should be just over $1500. Then I got looking at gunbroker and saw a used but mint condition PS90 Tri-Rail for $1200, so I figured it might be a good idea to try and bring one in. So, for a handgun, is it a lot easier to bring in compared to a carbine like the PS90?
 
If you can pick one up for $1200, that's pretty good. Handguns are generally easier to import than carbines because the DOS can be idiots when exporting "tactical" stuff. They've been known to decline an export permit for no good reason one day, and then approve the same request on another.

Best bet would be to ask Prophet River about it.
