First off I will not attest to be any formal expert or historian in regards to the red rifle category but am becoming a fan of these.
I picked up a PU Sniper a few years back and really have not had a chance to put it through its paces.
This one was a refurb of a real sniper from the Tula plant. I tracked down the origin with the old set of numbers and funding that this was once a real un issued sniper with now a real in issues PU scope however not the original one that was matching. Looks like the right era but not matching set but now matching after the refurb and the old lines were crossed and re stamped.
Also looks line the original stock to gun with the markings. I picked this one up prior to the importation of 1000s that have shown up as of late.
No feeding problems and Had a good look prior to taking it out. Slugged the bore and seems like an unfired barrel at someplace between 306-307 I slugged it 3 times to confirm as I was expecting .309-.311 however it is what it is and infact was .306-.307
At the range I scrubbed it down and let a few surplus mfs 185 down the pipe to get a site in and should say shot 50 yards only. This was the first time behind the wheel of a mosin for me.
Because of the bore size I figured .308 bullets should fly straight so loaded up some 175 smk and 178 AMax.
I also has some copper was cheap surplus and bought a box of 150 Prvi.
Mag fed well into the chamber was a smooth action. I did find the Pu scope an interesting way of adjustment as its not Moa lol and a slight turn would take you to the North Pole so it's sensitive and odd on the left hand side
At the range not to my surprise the 308 bullets shot .75 to .5 for 3 shot groups the 178 being a bit better , the mfs surplus was 1-1.5 inches and the most surprising event was the Prvi.
Now the poi changed a lot between rounds / reloads to factory to surplus but I could not get over how well the Prvi 150 shot
After the adjustment notice the one high round this was the first 5 shot group I shot with Prvi soft point ammo
And I am impressed. I adjusted to .5 high at 50 and fired 4 rounds into what I think is a pretty tight group.
My thoughts on the PU is very worth while no worse than 1.5 inches with surplus and is capable of nice groups at short distance with better ammo. Pleased how tight the bore is and have no issue accuracy wise with .308 bullets however .310 shot outstanding with a 4 shot In a very tight group.
Please feal free to fill in the history about these refurbs ! I only traced my rifle but I know there hit miss on what you actually buy. I bought mine in a private sale 3 years ago.
Thanks.
