After over 40yr reloading, first time this ever happened and scratching my head.
Brass is ppu 6.5x55 2 times fired.
Rcbs rockchocker and Hornady dies
Resized normally and went to pull press handle up and neck separate from body.
Little bit playing to get brass off Mandel by using the case so shoulder is pushed in.
Any suggestions thoughts

It happens.

Was it just the one?

Did you somehow miss lubing the inside of the case neck?

How hot was the load?

I've had the same thing happen with PPU cases, for the 6.5x55, twice, once each, from two different lots.

Both lots were new, unloaded cases of 100 each.

Loaded fist load, all was well, first "reload," and the neck came off at the juncture of the shoulder and neck.

In both neck separations, nothing looked awry.

My loads are too hot for a Swede Mauser, which might have had something to do with it?

I even cut a few cases in half for a visual inspection and measurements. Couldn't find anything.

I got rid of those cases after the fourth reload. The necks never came off again, but they did start splitting.

A knowledgeable friend suggested it may have been too much Zinc in the brass metallurgy.

Never lubed inside and it was just one case. Load is close to max but not a hot load. I did notice one case had a split neck after resizing also so it went into brass pile.

the only batch of ppu I’ve used was the softest brass I’ve ever used. Softer than Federal and with looser primer pockets. I’ve never loaded anything to a max or hot load but well below.
