I've been wanting a Kel Tec KSG since they came out but could never justify getting one with 3 870's..
Talking to my brother a while ago and we were discussing critter control. He is using a single shot 410..
So I decided to build him an 870 shorty...
Then I learned dlask 12.5 barrels are now made from unobtanium.
If I could find one, building a truck, critter gun would cost as much as the KSG.
So in a moment of briliance..I decided I'll give him one of my shorties and replace it with the kel tec..
So..any bad points about them?
Any "must do" mods?

A 12 gauge has far more recoil than any .308. Particularly so when compared to a self loading rifle like the FN CIA1.

the recoil from my dominion arms 12.5" isn't bad at all. with 7 shells per tube the kel tec will weigh significantly more.
I cut my teeth on a single shot 12 gauge..
and fn's kick like a mule with the gas wide open..

I had two KSG’s at one point and sold them both a while ago. They are easy to short stroke so develop some muscle memory to rack ‘em with authority.

Related to this is to consider a handstop of some sort (I used Magpul AFG-2’s) to prevent your support hand from slipping in front of the muzzle when dumping rounds fast.

The other advice would be to polish the chamber as both of mine came rough from the factory.

I also added a kydex cheek pad for winter use (otherwise it’s bare metal).

Like with any pump, an aftermarket high-vis aluminum follower isn’t a bad idea.

Optional — but there are some McCarbo bits like their trigger return spring and sear spring that are decent upgrades.

McCarbo also offers a grip plug for the KSG that stores an extra round in the grip — why not?

Finally, there was a Limbsaver recoil pad for the KSG which I never got but probably would have if I had kept one.

thank you for the info.

i had a KSG, pretty great overall but some minor things could use improving. it was for sure the most compact and softest shooting shotgun ever while also having a unbeaten capacity of 14 shells.

the only really good mods for it are a strong vertical foregrip, (much safer than angled foregrips or no grips) using the plain forend to rack it felt wrong. and a compensator or large muzzle break is a good idea, stops it from being a knuckle blaster, because your fingers are only inches from the muzzle with how this shotgun is designed. (if you grip the forend and extend your index finger it is probably a inch away from the muzzle)

was a case where a American guy's foregrip came off and he blasted his hand.

not a issue if you check your foregrip (use blue loctite) and don't buy cheap Chinese stuff.

all that being said I now have a M&P 12, Smith&Wessons "copy" of this gun

it is pretty much a KSG but improved in every way, they have the foregrip as a permanent part of the foreend (stopping any knuckle blasting worries)

it has a much better mag tube selector on the forend (left-to-right switch instead of a lever on the underside where you load shells)

has loaded chamber indicator, a AR style safety selector, Different size palm swells

much easier to disassemble, and has a very neat feature for cleaning jams. i never had a bad jam in the KSG but could be a big problem because it has a tight shell loading bay that is deep in the shotgun stock (good luck getting your fingers in there)

so S&W made a switch on the stock which allows the stock to pulled back, and gives you about 2 or 3 inches of extra room to clear jams. makes it much easier.

i can';t recommended the M&P12 enough for people who like the KSG like I did, sadly I put mine up on the EE though to pay bills lol

Well Kel Tec was listening..or they got sued. lol
Comes with a metal integrated foregrip complete with a light with ambidextrous momentary switches.
Sling and batteries included.
