Found another company that sells Lever action rifles all shooting pistol ammo. The ever present .44 Rem Mag the .45 LC and the .38 Spl./.357 Mag. Also comes in .44-40. MSRP for Puma costs a little more then a Marlin.

So what I'm wondering is the .45 LC and .45 Casull on par with the .44 Rem Mag for hunting.
Along with how does the .44-40 compare to the .44 Rem Mag, .45 LC and .45 Casull.
Which of the four rounds would you personally pick to use hunting.
What difference is there in shooting a .45 LC and a 454 Casull I know the physical difference but what is the difference in them after you pull a trigger and which of these two is better?

Also has anyone here heard of Puma Rifles and what type of quality are they when compared to Marlin?

I'm interested in the Top or Bottom guns shown in .44 Rem Mag possibly in .45 LC .45 Casull or .44-40.
I ask about the .45 Casull as the carbines shoot it too. They have a 20" barreled carbine. How does that work for hunting?

Puma Rifles have a safety on top of the slide
Marlins have a half ####

Puma come in either 20 or 24 inch holding 10 or 12
Marlin comes in 20 inch only and holds 10 rounds

Puma has a twist rate of 1:30
Marlin has a twist rate of 1:38

Puma weighs 6-8 lb
Marlin weighs 6 lb

Puma total length 38-42"
Marlin total length 37.5"

Thanks

the 45lc is like a pop, the 454 is more of a bang. hehe :)

Ive handled two puma's (both 454 cassul) and a ruger 45/70.

the two puma's fit an finish was good, the functionality of the older one was good. the functionality of the other puma, brand new, was terrible, it would load single shot, but would never pull anything out of the tube. brand new it required a trip to the gunsmith who commented on it being incredibly poorly finished on the inside.

the ruger is beutiful. fit and finish is very good and the functionality 100%

the Puma is a mod 92 clone & mine in 45 colt shoots well. It will take heavy loads & is easy to carry. The cassul is faster & more energy. If I was getting it as a hunting rifle, not just a cowboy gun, I would prob, go 454. I dont know the price of 454 brass etc. How can you go wrong with a fun gun? good luck AJ

Missed a caliber the carbine also come in the .480 ruger whats that like for a recoil and for hunting of course?

I didn't really want to know the difference in noise they make when fired. I want to know the difference in the recoil and distance they travel accurately when fired in a rifle compared to the .44 Rem Mag in a rifle.

As for the quality of the Puma that you fired what model was it and could it have just been a defective gun or is that the usual? Puma has no actual website just dealers that sell them on their site.

Ruger doesn't make a lever action in a caliber I'm interested in getting and they look wrong with the style of stock they use.

BC Bigbore Most of the links I find are about the guns owners having purchased a gun. For which I appreciate but they don't help me compare the pros and cons of two very nice looking guns.

What I also am needing to know is the differences in smoothness of the action they quality of material used and how solid it feels when held and when shooting and the CALIBER OF BULLETS they fire such as the effective hunting ranges that people have found out when using them and the recoil you experience. We have no dealers of the Puma Rifles in Kamloops so I'm relying on what people will tell me so I can figure out if its worth making a trip to N. Vancouver to take a look at one. I also do not know many people who have guns so unless I go to a shooting range and beg people to let me try out the different calibers they have (which I'm not good at) I'm out of luck.

Thanks 'a j cave' the 454 casull will be a caliber I will consider as I'm looking for a gun that can be used for all big game and for some fun shooting. Planning on doing my own reloading from the get go. Just wish that my PAL RPAL was done the 29 day assessment.

I own a Puma 92 in 44mag, it is a 20" stainless version. I also own a Marlin mad '94 in 44mag, with 20" all blued. Both of these guns are great fit and finish on my Puma is very good, my Marlin was bought used off of a cougar hunter who carried it for 12 years or so and it shows it, but the action is smooth as glass. About the only downside of the Puma is the steel buttplate really gives the 44mag much more bite than it oughta have, the marlin is much more comfortable, but both are manageable.

Oh yeah if you do decide on the Puma 92 in 44mag look for one imported direct from brazil as you can get them without the silly safety, and just the half ####. Only guns that were first imported to the states then Canada have the safety. Check with the Powder Keg in Kamloops Mark had a bunch of them last time I was home.

Thanks for letting me know about the safety not to sure if I wanted that or the half ####.

As for the Powder Keg OVER PRICED compared to Wholesale from what I've seen of the guns I'm interested in up to now and extremely rude. I was in there two days ago and the guy I was talking to after it became apparent I wasn't gonna put money down on a gun *they didn't have the gun I wanted anyways* he walked off to get something from his truck for someone else leaving me at the desk looking at other Lever guns and that really CHAFED MY KHAKIS. Time before that we were treated so rudely when he found out we didn't have our PAL despite in forming him that it was 24 till we took our test I almost didn't go in the last time. Same with the time before that just before we started taking our CORE.
