Purchased a Picatinny Rail, what the Hell with recommended torque 60-70 in/pds

I purchased a Millet picatinny rail for a Savage and upon reading install information, it says to torque base to 60-70 in/lbs. From information I've gathered, I am being told about 30 in/lbs should be enough. I torqued to 38 in/pds and stopped as it seemed a bit overkill. My thought was 60-70 in/pds would have stripped or broke off the screws. Am I missing something or what, as I can't see torqueing down near to 60-70 in/pds??????

Yes, in/pds, I don't beleive the screws heads would have held up to even 50 in/lbs without stripping.

I torque mine to 20 with clean threads and loctite, zero issues. My Nightforce crossbolt nuts get torqued to 65 and they are much bigger than the 6-48 hardware most rifles use for their scope bases. I think 60-70 would stand a good chance of stripping the threads and possibly deforming the base.

The screws will twist off at that torque I would think as well.

Why not contact Millet. Ask the manufacturer what gives (so to speak).

I think 65 in/lbs is for a 1/4 bolt used on steel tactical rings....
