Couple months ago i purchased a 1lb jug of varget from a BC gun store, i noticed the bottle looked older like it had been sitting around for quite some time but wasnt about to be picky considering the powder situation. Yesterday i was going to do some loading so i open the bottle and when i pour the powder out it is clumped together and sticking to the inside of the bottle. Yes the seal was on the bottle but not really glued on more just in place from the lid pressure. Anyway the powder is wet and i can form it into a ball and it stays that way. It does not leave an oily residue on my hands so im sure its water. I check the date on the bottle and its from 2014. Now considering the high demand for powder there is no way this is new. Im guessing this buisness is either refilling used containers from larger bulk containers or there buying from gunshows or buddies old unwanted stock and reselling as new. Im fairly sure thats not legal to resell powder or ammo but maybe someone on here knows for sure.
Ill be contacting them tomorrow to see what they have to say. I wont share the company name until i here how they deal with this but for now im out $75 for a problem i should not have. This is the only bottle of Varget that i have had in over a year and its been stored properly on my bench with other powders and no issues with them.

Holy cow. That ain't good.

Might as well tell us who it is man lol you're just saying it happened. If they make it good, then we'll know that too

The date on the bottle is a dead giveaway of something fishy. I will be paying close attention to the dates on powder from now on. The store is not in the lower mainland but maybe thats where the product came from...

I hope they do right by you...but in reality they may very well say that after a couple months in your possession the moisture may have gotten into it while in your possession.
No matter what I purchase, even if I don't intend on using it for a while I check to make sure all is good.

Definitely call the store but actually water doesn’t affect modern smokeless powders.
It is actually part of the manufacturing process.

If you are really in a jam try drying it out.

Agreed !

I could wager a steak dinner that all Varget that was produced in 2014 and placed on the shelves of (legitimate) Canadian vendors probably sold by 2015 or 2016.

I had a bottle of retumbo a few years ago that had clumps in it. Not as bad as your varget but still had some big clumps. Mine was still factory sealed. I tried it and it seamed fine. But all the kernels in mine looked normal where as yours dont look right. I would contact the store you got it from and ask for your money back.

Called the store today and explained the situation. The guy at the store said that he was sorry for the situation and that was it. He did not act shocked or offer anything further except to call on thursday when the owner was working. So ill call again on thursday and see what happens.

Talked with the owner at Powder Keg today. He was good to deal with and gave me acredit on the powder. I guess he took some powder on trade and it was contaminated, likely from the floods last year. Bit concerning that powder was being resold second hand though.
