I haven’t been paying attention to what Trudeau has been doing to the gun laws here in Canada so my question simply is this: is it still legal to purchase handguns in Canada and if so could someone please recommend where I would be able to purchase a Sig Sauer P226 Navy Model.

Want a handgun, only place to get em is downtown Toronto, fresh imports from the states, you don’t even have to worry about barrel length and pinned mags
I don't want to sound like I'm throwing shade at the OP, but is THIS indicative of why these laws can pass? If something as big as this handgun ban, with all the media attention it received, wasn't noticed by members of the firearm community, it is no wonder that the government can pass these laws. Especially if they split it into small, less-attention-getting bits. I have sent more than 100 letters to members of parliament since May 2020, and some people don't even know about the changes in the law??

No question, it's part of it. Granted, we don't know how much the OP was ever part of the shooting community, but it is also my experience that many Canadians are apathetic, and pay no attention to anything beyond the tip of their nose. I know people who never take in any kind of news: if it isn't on their family Facebook feed, they never hear of it.
But it's also no more than just a part. In addition to being apathetic, Canadians are also gullible, timid, and pessimistic. If the media and government tells them something, they will probably believe it. Even if they don't believe it, they likely won't have any idea how to fight against it. Even if they know how to fight, they tend to believe they won't win. 300 Years of riding on the coattails of the dominant nations on Earth has made us a soft and weak group.

Yea I’ve talked to my coworkers about things, one of them asked if I was a bank robber when I said I have handguns the rest thought they were illegal to own, I showed a picture of my type 97 and a few thought it was a “machine gun” all of them are pal holders and avid hunters

I’m fairly sure most of them don’t vote but the ones that do vote conservative or PPC, they are absolutely fudds, most don’t see why anyone would need a semi automatic, the median age at my job is 60, I’m far outside that range
