Hello,

I was speaking to my good friend NABS recently, and we had spoken about how difficult it is to acquire either a Karabiner 1888 or Gewehr 1891 Carbine. Apparently they go for quite reasonable prices in the Land of the Eagle (USA), yet the Land of the Beaver (Canada) is bereft of such marvels. Is this because older collectors snapped them up way back when and are holding onto them? Or, is it because so few entered Canada to begin with? I have never seen one in person, and never seen one for sale in Canada.
Importing from the USA seems to be the only method to get one, yet many folks down there refuse to do deals involving importation, even if the buyer is going through an intermediary (such as Questar).

On a side note, if anyone has one they are interested in selling, I have a friend who may be very interested!

Thanks, let the discussions commence!

I have only seen one Kar 88 in Canada in a private collection, and I'm not saying where it is until I get my hands on it !!!!!

I think Granite has one too.

I'm pretty sure that Century, when they were in Montreal, was selling them. I think I still have one of their catalogs from the early 70's, I'll take a look.

In 1965 they were selling KAR 88s for $ 35.00. Interesting that they considered the "Turked" 88s as rare and charged a premium of $10.00 extra !!!
