Does anyone have any experience ordering a stock from Boyds? Trying to find a better quality stock for a Ruger American Rimfire and they seem to be the only company that offers one. Just curious what sort of hassle I might expect on ordering one?

Thanks

Have ordered, received, installed, and used two Boyd's stocks. Both are laminated and both are thumbhole stocks. First one ordered several years ago, second one in Nov, 2023 (pre-Trump). Completely satisfied with the way my orders were handled, the drop in fit, and with the performance of my rifles in the stocks. Main difference between the two orders was price increase over the years.

Thanks for the input. Unfortunately with our dollar sucking so bad, it's not going to be cheap, which is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I love the AT-ONE Thumbhole on my Axis. It’s upgraded to pillar bedding and all metal fixtures. Great stock and allows me and the rifle to reach our peak potential offten well under MOA.

Also used to have one on my A22. Again looked great but this one required a bit of fitting. Once sorted looked felt and performed awesome. Truly regret selling that gun.

That being said. I purchased that stock in 2022. And would not do so today at current costs. More recently I purchased chassis now from MDT. Not cheap but better value and quality in my opinion. Canadian made so no duties either.

Here's my .02

Prices are double now, from what they once were !!
Everybody has their hands in the pie pan....CBSA now wants a share, UPS will also screw you out of a hundred and a half and some change, the Canadian dollar sucks hard, and even worse....Boyd's has pretty well eliminated ANY QC at all !!!!

**FYI***I've order at least 15 or 16 stocks from Boyd's over the years, not one issue, stellar folks to work with !

The last stock I order (2021-22) for my daughters 243. It was a thumbhole varmint in sky laminate for her stainless A-Bolt II. Shorter LOP and a couple of laser etchings on it.
When it arrived, I was in shock...it was finished sooooo bad, like embarrassing bad !!!!!!!!!

Sent them pics, got a generic apology back, sorry, man out sick.. bla..bla..blah...
I had to cut the stock in two, send them more pics to confirm the deed was done, in order for them to send me a new replacement one !
The replacement arrived a few weeks later, and was FKN worse than the first one !! Looked like someone skidded it across the warehouse floor !!! What a fekkin mess...scratches, dents..just a chitshow of poor QC ! I wanted to send it back and get a refund...but they said it wasn't worth the shipping !
After a couple more conversations a refund was issued. Took a few weeks, but I finally got it !
Also had a request from me to speak with a higher up in the organization...even Randy if he wasn't too busy counting his money....no reply...EVER !
That was and will be my last interaction from Boyd's !

That sounds like a horrible experience with them and would probably finish my dealings with them as well.

I couldn't be happier with the one I ordered in 2023 though. It was for a Mod 70 Classic Stainless that I bought when Winchester went back to controlled round feeding again - from the mid-90's I think. I hated the original plastic stock and sold it to someone that was looking for a beater while moose hunting from a canoe. I had some concerns about how well it would fit given dimensions and barrel contours had probably changed over time. They were very responsive and confirmed what that the stock I wanted would fit based on dimensions I sent them. All in all, I'd do it again. Not cheap, but the older I get, the more I get sticker shock - even from fast food burger and fries...

What kind of stock are you after? Have a look at MDT's offerings. That way you could buy local and save some money too.

Could also see what's being offered on the used market.

I just want a decent quality stock for the rimfire project. The factory plastic stock is just cheap. Unfortunately MDT doesn't currently offer a chassis for the Ruger American Rimfire. I did message them and suggested adding it to their lineup.

The MDT Field stock is highly regarded as a nice "do it all" kind of stock.

There are lighter options or more customizable options like the SBI chassis.

Depends what the gun will be used for and how much you're wanting to spend....
