Hey all,
I'm looking to purchase my first restricted, I'm located in Vancouver bc.
I'm just a little fuzzy on the process and what all I need other than Rpal, if anyone is willing to clarify for me.
Thanks!

The store will phone in the sale and more than likely it will be approved immediately and you will be able to take it home. If you have a trigger lock and a locked box, bring those with you, otherwise purchase at the store. You will need those to transport home. If you buy on a weekend, you may have to go pick it up later, once the store has been able to get the transfer approved, which will be weekdays. Once you get the gun, drive home by the most direct route. Smile all the way...because you are now a proud new restricted firearms owner!

More straight forward than I thought! What about if I were to purchase online? Will I need to fax a range or club membership to the cfo?

If I recall, that usually happens during the process of obtaining (and or renewing) your "restricted" PAL. If you buy online and phone in the transfer, they may ask you at the time the purpose of obtaining the restricted firearm. Target shooting and collecting are the only acceptable responses. Collecting puts you into a different category I believe (stand to be corrected) so I doubt that will be your response if you want to go to a range and actually shoot the thing. They may also at that time confirm the range you are a member of but likely that will just be a verbal response from you.

Awesome thanks for the info! It weird that they would put you in two different categories. Almost like they are profiling you

I could be wrong about that but seem to recall additional restrictions (and privileges too I believe) if you deem yourself to be a "collector".

What are planning on buying? Do you know yet?

Yes, that's pretty normal to have this request made. But good luck finding a valid fax number for BC CFO any
longer. Generally they'll simply delay your approval, then you'll call them to follow up, and then they'll tell you
that the CFO requires proof of club membership, which you will then provide and wonder why nobody called you
to ask for this info......then a week or 2 later, you'll get the approval.

First one is generally a bit slow. I would call CFP back East and proactively provide your club membership info
asap, so it's on file, ask them to please make sure BC CFO has this.

That's a good idea, thanks!

Cool! Love Sigs but the grip is just too big for my (smaller) hands. Had one as well as a Beretta 92g. Sold them both because it always felt like I couldn't get a good enough grip on them.

Enjoy!

Thanks!
I phoned in to finish the transfer today, they just asked what club I was with and what purpose I have of the fire arm. I'm not 100% sure but I think he's even sending me a new pal with the att attached. How long does it usually take to go through?

Thanks!

Do yourself a favour, phone back in and get the email address to send a copy of your range membership to, scan and copy your club membership and email it to them with your reference number as the subject ( eg - Restricted Transfer #######x).
Be proactive when it comes to the CFO, do not trust the CFC to pass on your range membership info to the BC CFO, they will not and you will end up sitting waiting for the transfer approval for weeks, until you get sick of waiting and call back in after weeks of waiting, especially on your first restricted. They will then tell you to email them a copy,,do it now to avoid the hassle :)
You will get a new Pal in about two weeks after your first restricted is approved, good luck!!

This^

1. Walk in store/buy online
2. They get your pal info and you pay
3. Call CFO to confirm transfer and ask for email (last time I did it took 5 mins to receive the email after call)
4. Show the store guy with phone if you want/email the copy to online guy
5. Take the gun home
6. Wait 2-3 weeks (this is the long process for 1st time BC)
7. Receive a new Pal with ATT on the back
8. Receive separate mail with your firearm cert
9. You can now bring it to range to shoot
