Is there a limit to how many restricted firearms I can purchase before having to join a gun club in order to get an Before cfo stops issuing att's?

No Limit, after 10 registered you "may" be subject to inspection by the CFO (I don't know anyone who has been inspected). You won't get an ATT in Ontario without a club membership, only a STATT to bring a new purchase home.

"...Before cfo stops issuing att's?..." They won't issue an LTATT if you're not a club member. The STATT to get a firearm home has nothing to do with clubs. You cannot shoot any of your restricted firearms on the STATT.

So in Ontario we can legally purchase restricteds without being a club member? I was under the impression that you had to be a club member in order to purchase a restricted. For some reason on the website gun-shop.ca it asks for your RPAL license AND proof of membership to a non-profit gun club in your region in order to purchase a restricted. However I believe this website is in Western Canada. But I am confused. Can someone clear this up?

There is NOTHING in the FA that says you are required to be a gun club member in order to buy or own a restricted firearm.
That said... The FA also doesn't say the CFO can't ask that "reasonable" conditions be applied in their administration of the act.
I suppose the cfo looks at it like...
"Well, the only place you can shoot a restricted firearm is at a gun club. You don't belong to a gun club so... What do you need a restricted firearm for..?"

also if you arent a member of a club than you will have more difficulty getting an ATT. there are even many clubs which require minimum membership times before they will support a long term ATT. the current system makes owning and using a restricted firearm such a burden that many, such as myself, dont even bother. if you want to own restricted firearm and arent a member of a club the easiest thing to do would be to order it online and have it shipped to you. doing it that way you avoid the need for an ATT (just make sure you arent picking it up at the post office and it is delivered to your door).

Ok, makes sense. So some websites will sell a restricted without a club membership, and some won't? Because as I said before, gun-shop.ca asks for proof of club membership. Also, I notice that many ranges offer day passes for about 20 bucks. Is it possible to just get a one-day ATT if I want to go to a certain range on a certain day? Or I guess it doesn't work like that?

"...some websites will..." Isn't a web site. It's either a gun shop or a private seller. Ontario's CPFO policy says they won't do a restricted transfer if your reason for owning said firearm is target shooting, unless you're a club member. No law says you must be a club member though. It's just policy.
"...the cfo looks at it like..." Exactly. Mind you, being a club member opens a lot of doors. Invites to hunt, et al.

In regards to some of the replies, some of you are saying you can purchase restricted online and get it shipped to you. I'm in the process of getting my club membership but the online dealer i'm working with to purchase my first restricted is telling me they cant until i get my club membership.

I am not a member of a range and I just bought a restricted from one of our site sponsors and just told them I plan on joining a range soon, which I do plan to do. It was delivered last week and is now in my safe.

I remember a thread a while ago where somebody was told by the Ontario CFO office that he would not be allowed to register more than 3 restricted firearms until he presented them with proof of range membership.

So I guess some online retailers will sell to non club members, and some won't? That is strange. I plan to join a club eventually, but would like the opportunity to purchase a restricted firearm first, while I take my time and shop around for a club, perhaps join a waiting list for one in my area.

Welcome to the messed-up, psychotic world of Canadian gun laws.

There's nothing official preventing it, except for the unofficial-official thing that does, unless you have the official thing that makes the unofficial-official thing properly unofficial, and that's not counting the semi-official thing that makes the whole thing a judgement call. Officially. We think?

Fun stuff, huh?? :p
