At the office we've got about 50 old phonebooks, apparantly one for each phone in the office, so I've decided to take them. For what you may ask? Well to see how many phone books a .50cal muzzleloader will shoot thru with a 240 grain Hornady XTP bullet and 100 grains of 777. I've taken 6 phonebooks so far, tape them together to form a nice "block" if you will, and plan on putting this block at 100 yards and taking a shot....

So, I ask the gunnutz community, will it go thru 6 phonebooks? should I add more?? or will it stop somewhere in the middle? take a guess and I'll have the answer come Friday night!!!!....oh and pics to follow!

If you have lots, I would add more. Last time I was at the range, there was a guy doing the same type of thing. I think he had 4 books (YYC Yellow pages), and was only at 75 yards though. The shots always made it through, and always made a puff of paper.

ok, I'll go up to 8 and see what happens.....these won't be soaked in water either, just plain dry thick phonebooks taped together.....so 8 it is and I forgot to mention this will be at 100 yards!

and for ####s and giggles I'm gonna take the 17HMR and see how far it penetrates as well.

at 100 yards, aim for the top half of the first phonebook as once the bullet impacts it will tend to want to drive downward a few degrees and you want to make sure you stak in the borders, so to speak.

Hmm,, just how many phones can there be in the province of Sask?,, :?:

I'd say,, you couldn't penetrate one Ottawa phone book,, but you may need about 50 Sask phone books to stop that bullet,,

i dunno, but you do have to set your watch back 20 years when you cross the border into saskatchewan.

Okay laredo, what happened? where's the pics? It will go thru about 5" of phone book if they're held tight together.
