Purely out of curiosity...

In Kuhnhausen's Mauser book he describes cutting an M98 action apart, removing a piece, and rewelding it to create a short action. Has anyone tried this? How much would doing something like that cost?

no idea on the cost..but what I would do is get two Mausers, cut and welded in the right places, one can be shorter, the other longer. You use the front end of one on the back end of the other.

I did one many years ago. I made it shorter..... you also have to do the bolt body the same amount.. and the floorplate assy..

I don't know about making them longer....

I did it for myself and I wouldn't take on the hassle of doing one again...

Bevin King has done some,I think he went both ways longer and shorter.A lot of work.

Jason Spencer at Gunco in Nepean has done this. I've seen the results, and they were superb. He used 2 1909 Argentines, and wound up with one magnum length, and the other .22-.250 size. Outside the stockline, you could not tell that the actions had been altered. One action was for his own use, I think he sold the other. No idea about cost, but this is a serious project.
