Hi,

For a while now I've been trying to figure out what the part pictured on the left is for. www.frontierfirearms.ca/images/IMG_1118 - m14 parts (21).JPG. I can see the hexagon hole on one end would be for the gas block. The rod that comes out of the middle is to attach to the cleaning rods. So what's the end with the holes in it for? :confused:

P.S. It's interesting to see 90% of all posts in this sub-forum is regarding the M14! :D w:h:

, the end actually provides a receptacle for the ratchet brush, or it's an aid for filling the mags from stripper clips- you use the end against the casing, and push down- that's it

Thanks T-star. By the way it looks I thought it had to be some really cool function, and I wanted to know what that was! :D

It is a multi tool. It has the cleaning tool that you use to clean out your chamber and also a little steel bar levers perpendicular to the body so you can insert it in the hole in your trigger guard and lever it down easier for full weapon disassembly. It also has a hex that fits your gas nut.
Tstar needs to attend the next M14 clinic next time before he dispenses advice.

Dude, those functions of the tool were already covered in the OP. The question was specifically about the end of the part with the holes in it that the chamber brush sits in, and that was exactly what t-star's answer concerned.

hey , i COULD HAVE TOLD HIM THOSE WERE COOLING HOLES- but i chose the high road and answered his question- the multitool can also be used to DISASSEMBLE THE BOLT as well

you use the RATCHETING brush to clean your chamber- the blade on the side of the multitool is used to tighten the sighting nut, and turn on/off the gas / as well as any other application that would use a blade screwdriver

Well... you could of said it was a heat sink attachment... that would of been COOL! :D Thanks again for the straight goods on the M14 multitool. Another great use of CGN! :dancingbanana:

Multi-tool. Doubles as the cleaning rod handle too. I think the holes are just to make it a bit lighter. As daft as it sounds. The U.S. military was big on that sort of thing in the mid 50's.

Besides the fact you should read the stickey's and/or attend the clinic's if you can. Here is something you can watch that may help you out in the mean time;
