Well, spent all day Saturday bunny hunting. The dogs were hitting a lot of hot starts that ended up forcing me to push the bush again. One of the little irritations I have about pushing the bush is all the damn bites and welts I end up with after the fact!

Despite wearling two T-Shirts, a long sleeve flannel shirt & an insulated flannel work jacket, I still ended up with mysterious red splotchy/bite marks? on my arms & chest/stomach. Happens everytime I have to bull my way through the bush. Oh well, time for the alcohol and Lanacane again!:(:D

Still had a great day though! Got 15-16 good starts and ended up bagging 6 bunnies. I should've had more, but the leaves still haven't dropped yet so visibility is iffy. Even though I was hunting with my little Fox/Savage .410 SXS, I passed on a fair number of shots as I couldn't be sure the dogs weren't hot on the bunnies tail. The dogs ran their tails off though! Poor buggers, my brother ended up packing the youngest female out in his rucksack! She was pooped and basically said fug it when faced with another 4-5 km hike back to the truck.:D I kinda think she enjoyed being packed out papoose style, and happily curled up on the benchseat for the trip home. The other beagles were pooped too, but made it back to the truck on their own steam, I had to help 'em up into the cab though! Hadn't planned on running them so hard, but the starts came so fast and furious, they didn't want to call it a day.

Sounds like a hoot! This is really the first year I have spent any time rabbit hunting with dogs and I really enjoy it. Them beagles are the most determined things on the planet I think. Once they get one going they do not want to give it up until its dead. :D

Nice stuff X-man. I hear you on the leaves/visability/DONTSHOOTTHEDOG!

Lotsa rabbits out and about though. I keep trying to have a grouse hunt but come home with rabbits.

Wish I had some beagles, my bud does though, and man, they are a hoot!

If/when you get a dog, you should pick up a new blaze orange split ring collar for him/her with 3M reflective tape. Makes the dogs a lot more visible, especially in low light and the spit ring design ensures that if they get hung up, they won't choke. Don't forget the beagle bells! (Get the plastic coated ones if you can):D

Here's the pics from Saturday's take, that's "Belle" my purebred beagle ##### & my little FOX/Savage SXS .410
