putting a ACOG on a PE90

It's about time I get something else then just an Aimpoint for my two Swiss rifles. (PE90 and 551LB). An ACOG 3.5x35 seems quite a good idea since it's battle proofed and can take quite a beating.

Now I don't quite know which model to get.

Currently I'm using an Aimpoint ML2 on a low rail from Swissarms and I'd like to continue using this rail with the ACOG.

Does someboy here use an ACOG on his Swiss Rifle?

regards

Danny

Just picked up an ACOG TA31RCO for just this very purpose...
I'll post some some pics later today...as soon as I can pull my head out of my ass!?

Thanks foxbat. This was really getting frustrating for me. Since there were too many ACOG models, I was torn between the TA11F and the TA31F for my PE90. I'm curious to see the TA31RCO on the PE90. The question is are these ACOG models optimized for the 20 inch 1 in 10 twist barrel and 63gr GP90 ammo? I mean will the ranging scale in the ACOG work or will it be slightly off?

The reticle in the TA31RCOA4 is optimized for 62 gr bullet out of a 20" barrel with 1/7 twist. It may be off slightly for 63 gr GP90 out of a 1/10" twist barrel but at any realistic distance is will be close enough for gov't work. If you zero the ACOG at 100m while seated on your Sig the elevation stadia lines for futher distances will be close.

Remember that even if you used 62 gr out of a 1/7" twist barrel the stadia lines are only a good estimate anyhow. Weather conditions, elevation from sea level and temperature all play a part in the actual flight of your bullet, which depending on those conditions, may or may not match with the ones Trijicon used when they calibrated the stadia lines.

Thanks for what you wrote so far guys.

My 551LB (on which the ACOG is going to be used most of the time) has a 18" barrel, would this be a big deal if I'd get a model optimized for 62 grs, 1/7 twist 20" barrel?

I used a TA31 on a Classic Green rifle one year for service rifle matches. It sits up pretty high (I used a TA51 mount on Swiss Arms rail) so I needed to use a cheek piece too. The stadia were close enough out to 500m where my hold off for elevation was pretty much the same as my hold off for windage. It works but I never found it to be ideal, and eventually moved to the flat top rifle and low mounted Leupold 1.5-5x24m mk4 scope.

Thanks prairieguy for the info. Yes you're right there are a lot of factors that can influence the sight and it's best guestimate at longer ranges.

Also thanks Redleg for clearing that cloud over my head. You managed to answer few questions that I had indirectly :) I do have a question for the TA31F. Up to 300m was it dead on?

@redleg: isn't it possible to mount it on a lower rail?

The lowest option would be the Universal mount with ACOG insert, but even that has it up fairly high and you would likely want to use the cheek piece although it is a personal preference.

Sorry about the delay in getting the pictures up.
It's possible to use the rifle/ACOG combo without the cheek piece, but it's quite a stretch and not very natural/comfortable.
As you can see, I'm currently using the stock mount, and even if the Laure or
similar aftermarket mount was used, it couldn't be much lower as there's not much clearance on the fixed rear iron sights.
Mounting it more forward on the rail wouldn't work as the eye relief would be wrong.
Conclusion...optics on the Sig work best with the cheek piece mounted.
