BTDT ...
NOTE: the OLDER 9 MM Glock frames did NOT have the extra pin for the locking lugs ...
these would NOT be recommended for a .40 S&W conversion as the frame would flex too much under the extra load of the more powerful .40 cartridge.
However,
the newer 9 MM frames that have the extra locking pin should be virtually identical to the .40 frames, except for ejectors, and would work well for a 9/40 conversion ... except that you will have to buy [ and carry around ] an extra .40 slide.
For this reason I went with a .40 G22 as the starting point for my multi caliber Glock setup.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I sold my older G17, and kept:
GEN 3 G22
Adv Arms .22 LR kit
Lone Wolf SS 9 MM conversion barrel for the G22
Lone Wolf 5" SS .40 S&W RIFLED barrel for the G22 - for lead reloads
several 9 MM 10/17 mags
Reading up on this multi caliber Glock idea on the internet, the consensus seems to be that the ejector/extractor issues can vary from gun to gun. Some people have had no problems, others have had to change a few parts. Supposedly, the 9MM parts work better [ grab tight ] on the .40 cases, than the .40 parts work on the 9 MM cases [ might not grab tight enough ] but in my limited experimentation, I had ZERO problems with either set up.
Originally, I kept a complete 9 MM Glock top end, but after shooting it beside the LW conversion barrel in the .40 slide, I found no reason the keep the extra 9 MM Glock parts.
The 9 mm LW barrel in the .40 slide was slightly more accurate, and just as reliable.
Right now, I am running all NEW 9MM ejector, 9 MM extractor [ with the loaded chamber indicator ] and 9mm recoil spring. With this setup, everything seems to work perfectly for both 9 MM and .40. [ about 200 rds of each so far ].
The Adv Arms .22 conversion kit is still breaking in, and I am still experimenting with different brands of ammo, trying to find one .22 LR load that will be totally reliable AND group well. Not found it yet???
Next on the list is a munimula tube HERA style stock/carbine conversione for the Glock, with a red dot and bipod, and an extended .357 SIG barrel to make the carbine conversion worthwhile for 100 yd shooting.
Of course,
with any opinions you get for free on the internet,
it may be worth less than you paid for it,
