I am putting a new Near one piece base, on my Tikka sporter. The instructions say to torque it to 15-20 inch-pounds. I do not have a torque wrench in inch pounds, do you have any suggestions? I have never seen a torque wrench that goes down to 15 inch pounds. Any help would be great.

Thanks

Paul

there are specific torque drivers that will go down to 10 inch pounds or so. The Wheeler Engineering F.A.T. Wrench to be specific. Not that it helps you at the moment but they are out there.

Paul, I suggest you get a torque wrench for mounting your scopes. Too easy to ruin a good set of rings when you can get a in/lb wrench for $60 or so.
Fat wrench usually in stock at Cabelas and Wholesale.

"reasonable snug" will do the trick, its not somthing to be super anal about, just dont go white knuckleing the allan key and you will be fine. as long as all the bolts are consistantly the same tightness

if you are one of the guys who like to torque things to to the number, then the FAT wrench is a very good choice, alot of time you CT type or torque wrench are inaccurate down at that weight any way, youd have to get up into snap on quality to be correct and unless its an every day tool not really worth the expenditure

I picked up a F.A.T. wrench earlier this year. Coincidentally, my excuse was exactly what you are doing now, i.e. mounting a NEAR base on my Savage. It was my first tentative foray into precision shooting, and I felt it was worth the expenditure. Using this tool was a learning experience for me...I now realize that I was probably overtightening most or all of the gun-related bolts and fasteners I have monkeyed with in the past.

I think it's worth it, if only for the confidence it inspires...although there goes another excuse down the drain...
