Anyone else have a pvs4 night vision scope. Mine came new from the factory before Canada was added to the list of places who can't buy them.

I would assume they are out there and I have seen some pics on american sites of how nice they were.

Shawn- I highly doubt anyone civilian in Canada without obvious need Mil/LE, civilian rescue is going to get an ITAR exemption from the state department further more going to actually find a reputable company willing to go through the hassle of dealing with you. If this was the case the process would be posted on the various night vision forums. Fortunately there are various other legal means to get american night vision goodies that cost $$$$.

Canada was added to the list of places who can't buy them.

That's not exactly how it works. Defense/military technologies in use by the US are subject to the US Export Control System to prevent said tech from landing in unauthorized hands. Only licensed exporters can ship items under the purview of the ECS. Most exporters (and Canadian importers) do not want to take on that kind of battle, and thus supply is very limited here. It's still very much legal for a Canadian to purchase these items.

Mine came from B E Meyers and Company in Redmond, Washington when they were making. It isn't as easy as you think. Just
because the Canadian Government claims to not have any issues with stuff , doesn't mean they rubber stamp the forms.

The importer needs to demonstrate to the exporter that there's a need for whatever is being imported. This is per US law. None of it has to do with Canada.

The CF AN/PVS 502, when focused/"tuned" was/is every bit as good as the PVS4.
The pvs4 is considered gen2 as a result of it being able to shut down immediately, whereas the 502 is gen 1 as it needed to wind down.
The 25lp/mm was basically the same resolution for both. I spent a few nights with both units comparing side by side and found contrast etc very comparable.
The updated gen3 pvs4 is very nice
There are some components/parts that are shared between the 502 and pvs4.

I thought about the up grade to gen3 after seeing the comparison. But mine have no time on them, plus the
parts are not cheap. They have the m14/M16 mounts etc. I have the US and Israeli contract Leatherwood 3x9
scopes for m14 also.
