By the time Trudeau gets kicked out they will be delivering in numbers and having all the bugs fixed. Maybe there will be changes to C21.

IMHO, calibre change between large and small frames are good on paper but practically not a selling strong point. It has failed with SCAR ( that died early) and then COLT LE901.

Using a large frame for 308 to run 556 is inefficient. If someone needs a 556 he needs something compact, there is no point of carry a 308 sized 5.56.

Instead of pushing out 223 and 300blk, along with desert tech WLVN, they should focus on large frame calibre change kits right the way - 308 and 6.5CM, and then 227 fury and 8.6 BLK.

I dunno that there is much benefit to calibre changes between small and large frame cartridges from a mil or LE angle but as a civi shooter in Canada, I love the idea. You have the ability to do close range/dynamic drills and higher volume shooting with .223 and then swap to 6.5 creed for precision/longer range applications all while using the exact same manual of arms, same optic, etc. Run a 1-10 or 2-10 with offset red dot and provided the calibre changes have repeatable zero offsets and you have a great setup that with an 18.5" barrel you can shoot anywhere. You can even get a SBR barrel if you want to use it for range stuff but still have a NR rifle.

I always thought the Colt LE901 was a cool rifle but also had zero interest in a restricted large frame AR, especially once the Stags hit the market.

From a range warriour perspective, i would rather open the trunk and take out another rifle instead of opening a bag of loose kits to install/uninstall optic and conversion kits with a screw driver even at the range, lets say the weather is nice and it is not even freezing. After doing this a few times most people just go out and buy another rifle. It doesn't save money, it is more hassle and there loose items floating around.

I see purpose in calibre exchange within "large frame" calibres, but I don't see the appeal of using small frame calibres in a large frame receiver - like unless it is using 308 for precision rifle training so not to constantly using an even larger frame like 338 purely for budgetary reason. That is a totally different ball game from 223 vs 308/6.5

I'd rather have separate rifles as well but it's a lot more cost than just a second barrel assembly. The same budgetary reasons you reference for .308 vs .338 apply with .223 vs .308/6.5 creed. It's what I do for precision rifle training. I have multiple barrels for my actions. My main match action I use for lower volume training with a 6.5 creed barrel and swap on a 6 creed barrel for matches, my backup action I use for high volume training with .223 (75gr projos) and spin on a 6 creed barrel and swap the bolt head for matches. In a year where I'm very active, I'll shoot well over 10k rounds but 7k or so will be .223 so it's a significant saving and 75gr bullets are great for 600 yards and in. Considering I also shoot about 3-5k through my carbines, I'd be stoked to be doing that in a platform that is just a barrel swap away from being in a large frame cartridge.

In the case of my bolt guns, these are shouldered barrels that I need to use an action wrench and barrel vise to swap but I often do it at the range regardless. I could easily see doing it with a quick change system like the UXR has as long as the zero offsets are pretty repeatable. With 18.5" .223 and 6.5 creed barrels and a 1-10 it'd be a great universal rifle system, at least for my uses. Not for everyone but definitely an advantage for some, especially those who only run 18.5"/NR systems (even for .223).

Wait, are you saying two companies (PSA and PWS) feeding off the commercial market were able to put more thoughts into their rifles designs (JAKL and UXR) than a CZ who gets a thick slice of government market? Colour me impressed! Steel rails for steel carrier? Who would have thought it's a good idea!? Definitely not CZ.

Non-nerdy vid

Nery vid. That single spring scares me when used for big calibers, I guess they had to limit the gas from the port significantly. I think with 2nd gen they might go with double or two spring and more gas.

After watching the "nerdy" video, I really hope we get these up here. Even if they come in around $4k (similar to the cost of a NR Bren) if they shoot close to what's promised (1 moa) and you can get extra caliber conversions around the $500USD mark, that'll would be awesome.

Does the UXR's final design coming to Canada "beat" the coming into force of C21's "Everrgreen" clause? I have my doubts. As soon as somebody (say, IRG) applies for an FRT it get's denied on the basis of the Evergreen clause, just as the Lieberals intended. At least until such time as there is a change of government with a sizeable Conservative majority, resulting in the revocation of C21.
