Q: 870 Factory top folder - where to put shell carrier?

OK - I'm putting together a gun for the pending invasion of the undead .
It's a Express 870, 18" Remington IC factory barrel, extended tube. Factory top folder, Surefire front end, etc., but I'm missing the uber-tactical shell carrier So, I seem to recal seeing these mounted on the stock itself and not on the receiver side. It this normal for a top-folder? Is it a special carrier desiged only for the top-folder? Can the same side mounted shell carrier be mounted to the top-folding portion of the stock?

I use a 6 shot Tac-Star sidesaddle on my 870. It has a plate at the base that you scew on to the receiver. You get the screws with it that replace the original pins of your shotgun but I had to cut a bit of the upper rear portion of it so that the top folding stock could be in the closed position. I think that the one you are looking for is from ATI. Check out Disticorp.ca they have both models.

I'm building a Mossberg version of the same. Where did you get your stock and how much was it? Is it all steel?

The stock on the picture posted by OneBarfly is an original Remington that comes with the gun (very solid). I have the same and it work's great. If I'm not mistaking, ATI sells a version of it but I was told that it's pretty crappy.

why reminton also sells the crappy folding stock like mine ..all plastic...

I think I read of someone who replaced the tac star side saddle screws with longer ones so that he could accomodate a thin spacer to allow the stock to fold.
