This maybe a simple and stupid question but i'm wondering if anyone has any resource regarding bolt face compatibility when rebarreling to another caliber?

In my instance I like to know what a 308win or 223rem bolt faces and what i could convert them to OR could I assume any cartridge with the same diameter base could be used?

Try ammoguide.com. Login as 'DEMO' and click the ReBarrel/ReChamber guide. Choose the cartridge your rifle is currently chambered for and select the answers to :

What type of conversion do you wish to investigate?
- ReChamber (reboring optional) - Your chamber must have enough metal to form new round
- ReChamber (no reboring) - Same as above but bullet diameter must stay the same
- ReBarrel - Existing chamber dimensions are ignored

Will your gun's boltface/extractor be modified?
- No - Same bolt/extractor will be used
- Yes - Bolt/extractor will be modified (Lists rounds with wider/different type rims)

Can your action/magazine support a longer cartridge?
- No - Keep same max case length (or shorter) as original round
- Yes - Increase case length by X inches (Example: .25)
- Disregard - Show all candidates, regardless of length

It will list all candidates for you based on your inputs. For the .308 Win, selecting the ReBarrel option with no modification to the bolt face and keeping the same maximum length - it lists 59 possible cartridges.

I hope this helps !
