In pistol IPSC the shooter is sometimes started facing uprange and then spins to face downrange where they can draw their pistol.

What happens in IPSC rifle? I've only done a skim reading of IPSC rifle rules (http://www.ipsc.org/pdf/RulesRifle.pdf) and so far have not competed in in stage where that was the case.

In 8.2.2. it states:

Unless specified in the written stage briefing, the competitor’s stance prior to the commencement of the
course of fire must be standing erect, with the rifle in the ready condition, held in both hands, stock touching
the competitor at hip level, trigger guard downwards, muzzle pointing downrange and with the finger out of
the trigger guard.

My question then is, can you design a stage where the competitor can be ready with the rifle but facing uprange? (But perhaps with rifle unloaded to be safe)

We've had stages with competitor facing up range, with rifle/shotgun held by receiver in strong/weak hand pointing down range. You can also place rifle/shotgun to the table or stand it against wall and have competitor turn and pickup his gun.

In shotgun, I've seen start positions where shooter is facing uprange, the gun is pointed downrange, held in one hand as in "trail carry".

Or have the rifle staged on a table or something and have competitor turn and retrieve.

If rifle is pointed uprange, then the competitor has broken 180.

edit: euxx beat me to it, but I provided video so... I still win.

So they are pointing the rifle backwards downrange and then when they spin they just continue pointing it downrange and transfer to the strong hand?

Very good. Thanks for the video.

I ask that because someone asked me on another forum about it. Also I noticed in 3-Gun rules that you can start at low ready facing uprange with a slung unloaded long gun.

Out of curiosity, which 3 gun rules would allow someone to be at low ready pointed uprange?

Unloaded and slung I've encountered but low ready uprange, haven't come across that one yet.

I may be misreading the rules (and have not shot 3-Gun yet so I have no experience). I don't know what the definition of slung means. Does that mean over the shoulder?
