Q on service rifle shoots.

While shooting at the EOHC winter milshoot, Shortandlong put a bug in my ear about service rifle matches. I shoot a .223 bolt gun and was told that I might qualify for service rifle. I have a couple of questions.

1) - where can I find more info on service rifle matches in eastern Ontario?

2) - Would my gun qualify for this, even though it's not marked as a 5.56?

Generally, you can shoot any rifle in SR competitions. That said, you'll have a very hard time being competitive with the AR shooters when you use a bolt gun. For more information, contact the OSA here: http://www.osacanada.ca/ They shoot at the Milcun marksmanship complex near Minden ON or at the Connaught ranges in Ottawa. SR match rules can be found on the DCRA website: http://www.dcra.ca/welcome.htm Get into the game with your bolt gun to see if you like this sport. You can always get an AR later when you have learned all the ins and outs of SR competion matches. :dancingbanana:
 
Yeah, go ahead and shoot your .223 bolt gun. I'm preparing a Remington M700 SPS turned into LTR with a 9rd extended box magazine (hinged floorplate style) for some Service Rifle matches. :D

I have scoped it with a Leupold LR/T Mark4 M1 4.5 x 14 x 50mm Duplex reticle. Large Mark4 M1 knobs so that I can read the dial without my reading glasses. Bolt works well and fast during my last club practice with this turnbolt.

So I'm gonna drop 5 points (1 round) since my magazine holds only 9 rds, in the rapid fire matches, but I don't care.

Hey last year a QM winner competed in one of our (July 26 ??) matches in Connaught with a Mauser K98. He just happens to be a great shooter, too. :rolleyes:

Many new shooters turn up with interesting bolt guns like: Tikka M55's (4? round magazine), M70 Winchester .22-250 DM version, M700 Police with HS Precision magazine conversion, etc. I've seen all of these rifles shoot very well at the deliberates, snaps , rapids and rundowns.

Hey, I've even competed with an M700 Police DM in .308. I've shot this match with a Win M70 .223 Hvy Varmint back in 1994. Back then I had a Bushnell Buckhorn mounted on the M70 Hvy Varmint and I kicked ass at the deliberates and snaps. I used a leather 1907 GI sling AND my NRA High Power shooting jacket.

Just come out and shoot what you got !! Listen to what Shortandlong has to say !! :evil: Or else yer #### will fall off ! (no not really.....)
 
Come out and play. No one will (should) turn you away for not having exactly the right gear. In fact, if you're shooting factory ammo, there's a decent chance that someone would be willing to lend you a rifle.
