It's old for an air gun, probably over 100 years. Apparently the Model 83 was very similar, if not the same, as the Quackenbush Model 2, version 3. The Model 2 had five versions distinguished by various features and was manufactured from about 1879 - 1918.
The Model 2 was a .21 cal. push barrel spring piston air rifle with a smoothbore and nickel finish. It was designed to shoot round shot, felt slugs, and darts.
