I am on the hunt for a tactical shotgun in 12 for defence purposes when I'm quadding or back country camping. Length is an issue because I would like it to fit easily in carrying compartment on my rear seat. Ideally an open bore so I can fire slugs, but would consider a modified or improved cylinder, for buckshot. I'm leaning toward a Mossberg cruiser, any suggestions?

Dominion arms 8" with hogue 12" lop stock
Or
Mares leg/ranch hand (not a shotgun)
About as short as your going to get

I would love to have the KSG or Benelli but I don't want to sacrifice my first born. I honestly didn't even think of a mares leg

considering the JIC it is inexpensive and as far as a stock goes, and correct me if I'm wrong here, could a guy not put a folding stock on it. I prefer the idea of something short because I kind of feel that carrying my hunting rifle on my quad in the off season my be a CO heat score, you know out of sight out of mind applies here. Also to put on my gun boot I have to remove the rear seat thus giving up that storage space. All of the ideas here are great thanks. Next time I'm in the big city I may have to snoop around some of the gun shops and weigh my options and see how they all feel.

I know its not a shotgun but I take my sub2000 quadding. It folds in half! But 9mm not really ideal for say bear defense. :) probably good for everything else tho. Its a lot of fun when you stop for a break. Takes up very little room.
I also have an 870 with a hogue tamer pistol grip and i bought an older barrel and cut it myself to 19". It's still way over 26" overall.

Yeah a 9mm would be questionable on a bear but they are far from the only dangerous critter around here. I am honestly more scared of the cougars.

A 12.5 or 14" 870 with a short LOP stock would be my pick (I've got one). The Magpul stock is better than the Hogue but the Hogue 12" LOP youth stock works just fine with the correct technique. The 12.5" barrel gets you an OAL of 31" with the Hogue.

I got this one a few years back. 27" so is legal and does fit in a quad box
