Hey guys,

Not sure if this has been discussed in a dedicated thread (at least, not from the searches I've done), but I wanted to talk quad rails.

What do y'all think of them?

Which one do you use?

Which one is the lightest?

Would you even recommend them?

I'm running a Firefield $50 one on my 14.5" Norc and it does the trick, but it's a bit too heavy for my liking.

Just wanted to throw a line out and see what the climate is like surrounding the quad rail.

Cheers,
LP

I've got a Samson Star-C on my Stag. It seems excellent for a typical quad rail. I haven't tried any others, but I sure like the look of their Evolution rail. Makes me want an upper like Stag's 3G.

If you have a chance to handle Centurion forearms, either 2 piece or the NEW 1 PIECE, you would be surprise. I have the 10" 2 piece quad rail on my 11.5 bbl and its light and easy to install. check their website and or goggle.

Centurion and KAC are lighter than DD. Diamondhead is about the same.

All of them are easier to install than the DD Lite rails.

I have a LaRue. I have mixed feelings. Not because of the LaRue, but because it's a quad rail. They look awesome however:

You add weight (over poly), and in some cases bulk, and don't really get anything in return.
In fact, your ergos take a dump. You've paid $200-300 for the rail, you have to buy another $100 in accessories just so it's comfortable in hand.
Then after paying a premium for all that rail real estate you cover it up with a bunch of ladders, and all you've put on it is a vertical grip you can put on anything anyway, a buis which you don't need a rail for in the first place, and maybe a flashlight, just to say, but you take it off cause you never use it and it gets in the way.

So yeah, they look awesome but they are not honestly worth it. Can't see myself buying another quad. A tube, or mod rail yeah, but not a quad.

I find the ergo's and weight of an MOE Poly pretty much put everything else to shame.
The only real gain is if you get a long one, you can add sight radius to a carbine system, provided you actually care about the irons.
I once found myself pondering the purchase of some form of tube or mod rail for my Carry Handle 16" Carbine just so I could get the front sight out more, but I love love love the weight and feel of it with the MOE.

I run my LaRue on my 11.5", just to say I'm putting it to use, but one of these days I'm going to buy a nice flip up front sight gas block and just use an MOE.
Probably use the LaRue for a Pistol build.

So in conclusion, you are essentially paying for bling if you are an ordinary range bound paper puncher. If you are a competitor, or just want your rifle to be streamlined and "tactically squared away", as in just a great handling range tool, there are much better options.

DD 7.0 lite rail, bought off of EE for about $100. added omega ladders. shot close to 100 rds (IN 30 MIN) and these free floated rails do the trick. Hit the 300 yd gong 8/10 times from 4 shooters. bbl was HOT but rails not even warm.

I'm with Conte on this one. If I am changing something out now, it will get a Troy Alpha rail, a Noveske NSR or a Diamond head. Slim and smoother is where I am at now.

I have the DD Omega 7.0 I chose that one because it is free-floating and easy to install. It has an oval shape similar to standard hand guards so it fits nice in the hand. It is really light as well, at 7.6 ounces.

I have the Troy alpha. It's heavier than poly but lighter than a quad with full rails. You can add sections where needed.
