Quads

Oh and fuel isnt a big thing about quads like jees it costs me 15 bucks to fill up my 300, its a quad you got spend money if you want to play.

I have a 300 suzuki king quad 1993 has 4wd diff lock and a winch and i just got new tires, let me tell you first of all the winches wont do much out on logigng roads unless you have a long cable so carry a tow rope, my quad goes anywhere a 600 will accept its always in the shop because i rat bag it so badly right now its getting new valves and timing chain and brakes ahaha, if you pick up a 600 yamaha grizzly it wont fail you yamaha is the way to go they can really rip if you got a logging truck on your ass and they get through tough spots like nobodies business, alot of guys say they dont kud bog but when you shoot a moose that is through some harsh land and you gotas get to it the good tires help.

Wuz that all one sentence? Take a breath. ;)

PLEASE tell me you broke your typeing finger & your 8 yr old is entering all that info for us !!!

Having spent some time on winter roads in N Ont I can help you out with your winch problems :runaway: Carry a 3' piece of steel rod strapped to your rear bumper or?? so when your stuck with no winching point you can drive it in on a 45* angle away from you & winch yourself out.

Hope your fingers heal soon :D

Fuel can be a real big issue if you want to use it deep in the bush. We camp 25 km back, I have friends that quad further to go fishing for a weekend.

Last moose season having enough gas to get out was a real issue. A fella can only lug so much gas.

ah the quad question..... again :D

to each their own,

I have a Honda 450, with a 2500lb winch

my recomendations,

For hunting you don't need anythign bigger then a 500 and you don't need speed, power for pulling is good, speed is not going to help you.

Tires, something fairly agressive, but remember your not mudbogging but will need something that will get you across a swamp, so wider and flatter is better then narrow tall and rounded. Its easier to drive on top of the grasses then it is to cut through and churn up mud. (power vs speed again)

Winch, must get a winch, and more cable is better. Min came with 30' of 1/4" cable, not enough. It now has 3/16" cable and 60' fits on the drum just fine. I also carry 25' of 1/2" rope, because you can never have too much rope. :)

gun mounts, storage bins, saddle bags, etc.... as required. I have saddle bags now for more string, knives, small stove, sardines, water, etc... And I have a chainsaw strapped to the front rack.

My experience and that of friends is that Yamaha and Honda make well designed, reliable quads. I have a 600 Grizzly, and I like it. The belts in the cvt drive system last a long time. (Some?) Hondas don't have belts. They have a pricier but very reliable transmission.

I'm also looking for a quad.Decisions,decisions.I don't want nothing huge and am kind of checking out Suzuki 400 eiger 4x4,Yamaha 350 grizzly 4x4,and the Kawasaki prairie 360 4x4.I am looking for a pulling machine I see both Suzuki and Kawa. both have hi/lo range which would make for some awesome pulling.
The yamaha you have to jump up to the 450 models before hi/lo range is offered. All three models come with a free winch.Any more info would be appreciated.

I have yet to regret buying the Suzuki eiger. Mine is manual, and since I dont race, I'm not shifting all the time. Most of my drivin is done in 2nd or third.

Been riding with other machines, never had any issues.

The person riding the ATV makes the biggest difference.

Eventually I may step up to a 500 or 600, for riding with two people

I've an 01 500 Sportsman H.O.

Wanted a 400 Big Bear but that was the one year that they didn't offer the Big Bear in Canada.

I went over to the local Polaris dealership to see what they had and lo' and behold there was this bike with a whopping 500 km's (300 miles) for $6K included was a 2K # winch and hand and thumb warmers.

It was too good a deal to say no to.

Since then have bought new rims and new mud bugs for it and so far its working great. I had a bit of a learning curve to go through since I went from shaft drive in my Honda 300 to a belt but in all very pleased.

I have a Honda Rincon and I love it. I had a Bombardier 650 before which I loved for its strength but most of the times I ride trails and with its smooth handling the Rincon fits the bill better.

My Grizzly gets 20mpg average with 15 in tough going.
5 gallon tank = 75 miles of tough going!

A couple 5 gal cans & a full tank to start will take you a long way!!!

WOW.....what year is your Grizzly?

I have an 05, and it definately doesn't get 20mpg.

It will get about 12.

100k to a tank. Which doesn't bother me, I had read they were gas sucking pigs to begin with. Not sure why your mileage is so good.

You musn't be flogging enough...
;)
