Quality control differences, and one ammo Question.

Lol!! I did this a couple days ago myself, spent about 1/2 hour writing out a HUGE post that rambled all over the place and basically would have been a complete waste of bandwidth, and in fact probably would have made a lotta people wanna slap me for being so stupid :p Maybe I'm getting old...

OK you asked for it... :p

I was at a local Gunstore the other day and had a good close look at some of the Newer Norinco SKS's they had for sale (I'm told it is the same batch Lever has in Vancouver), and I have to say I was shocked at how low the quality was even for a Chinese SKS...pretty Fugly machining, and welding IMHO.

One of them was really bad...the rear receiver cover would move in my hand. Add a receiver cover scope mount and you would have min' of Barn accuracy. :D

I wont bother to go on like my first deleted post as most of it was rumours anyway ...But I will add that I recommend one checks their newer rifles really close before buying them.

All SKS's are not made Equal. :(

It was already answered in another post...it was why does Norinco Silver box have a copper colour on their steel cases? The short answer copper wash is...cheaper then lacquer. :D

I must have skipped over this part before, but I'm wondering where/on what part you saw welding on those SKS's? I'm not calling you a liar, I'm seriously curious! :p I've never seen any welding on an SKS before

As far as the build quality goes, I'd have to agree, I wasn't particularly impressed with Lever's stash of SKS's, they seemed pretty chintzy. I'm not trying to be an SKS snob, (SKS snobs sound like this; "oooOOOoo, I've got a FACTORY 26 with a THREADED barrel, and yours is PINNED, what a piece of crap!!"), and in fact there's probably nothing wrong with the pinned barrel models, I just don't get excited about them, that's all  For the price though, you really can't go wrong!! I doubt that any one of the Lever batch will break down anytime soon, the design is so tough & serviceable that you could make the rifle out of melted-down pop cans and paper mache and it'd probably still work :D

The front sling attachment is welded on.:p

Also yah the pinned barrels vs thread thing is pretty silly...hence why I didn't mention it.

Over all the fit and finish wasn't very good. Esp' that receiver cover...
See why I deleted the post?
