Quality single shot break action rifles, who makes them?

I am looking at buying an H&R Buffalo Classic in .45-70, they will hold 1.5 moa with factory, so i hear. Also the barrel can be switched out for any other that fits the sb2 reciever, with a litttle smithing of course. Only other one i know of is the Baikal IZH-18mh comes in a few popular calibers. Chiappa makes one called the "overtop folding hunting rifle" largest caliber in that is the 6.5x57. Unless you can get your hands on a Frank Wesson Tip-Up, the next coolest thing in my opinion is a sharps-hepburn clone, I think CS sharps sells 'em, pricey though. Hope that helps, skokie

You could go all out and buy a Holland & Holland,Purdy or Boss. I have a Ruger #3 in 45/70 that shoots nice tight groups. Will take any load you put through it but the recoil is brutal.

Merkel and Blaser make nice little stalking rifles - and they aren't too crazy expensive for the basic versions.

I have a T/C Encore, accurate, very well built, affordable and can be changed cal. in a minute. The only thing I would change is I would get a nice laminate stock for it. Very versatile rifle, I use mine mostly as a 50 cal. MZ.

Cva has one I believe they call it the apex. There's rossi and baikal hnr/nef. Beretta merkel chapuis any of the big london firms. You could try sabatti they make o/u rifles so I'm sure they'd have a single as well. Brno has one as well but the stock is the hog back style

:agree: X2- I'm on my 2nd Encore, great affordable multi bbl firearm. And as universal as it is mine gets more use as a muzzleloader.

An it looks like a journeyman's version of the Blazer, nice lines, high quality, and a third the price.

MSRP is $1585 - there is one on Gunbroker now for $1395. There are a bunch of Merkel K1 and K3 rifles available, new - including this beautiful little Stutzen for $3375:

Or this one with a 3-10x42 Habicht for $4250:

I don't know about the Effect - it is cheaper, but it might be worth it to save your pennies for an extra year to pick up a significantly nicer rifle.

I don't think that any of the British makers normally do break action single shots nowadays; they're more of a Continental thing. Rook (small game) rifles used to be fairly commonly made with break actions, though.

That BRNO Effect is a nice looking rifle but only comes in .308 and .30-06.

Edit. After checking the European site, it appears the Effect is available is a few metric rounds as well. It comes in 6,5x57 R, 7x65 R, and the 8x57 JRS. I wonder if the importer could bring one of those in?
