Hi there,

I see questar has a really cool M4 .22lr the "ST-22-M4CAR" on their website Has anyone heard anything about these? I have been waiting for so long for Wolverine supplies to receive their shipment of Colt .22 M4's or maybe the Sig522.

My question is why aren't people jumping all over these .22s from Questar? Is there something wrong with them? for some reason they don't state whether or not they are restricted or non restricted. i'm so confused....

I can't speak for anyone else, but the price is what keeps me from jumping all over it.

From their site:

"Spike's Tactical Lower, Machined from a 7075 T6 Mil-Spec Forging with Mil-Spec Type III Hardcoat Anodized finish."

The lower on an AR is what is registered. Therefore this would be a restricted firearm.

I think people are waiting for the non-restricted .22 rifles to clear and come in.

Questar mentioned the SIG522 might be in the $600 range for the complete Rifle.

I would wait too.

I bought a Tactical Solutions dedicated .22LR upper from Questar a couple of years ago and its been a blast. With the BDM magazines I've shot a few 3 gun rimfire matches. What a hoot! Well worth the money. I generally only shoot on a ranges, so it being part of a restricted package doesn't bother me at all.

The ST-22 from Spikes Tactical is a true AR and as such it's classified as a "Restricted" firearm. The lower is a Mil-Spec Ar lower so you can convert this rifle into a 5.56 calibre AR simply by switching the upper half to a 5.56 upper.

These are NOT the same as the new breed of ".22 AR's" which are being released by S&W and Colt... those guns look like AR's but much of their construction is using polymers and parts that won't work in a 5.56 environment (as an example). They are dedicated .22's and can't be converted to a 5.56 calibre rifle. They are built to be .22 only and to sell as inexpensively as possible.

Because of their design and the fact they are not compatible with "standard" type AR's (and because the crown lost a recent court case dealing with the classification of "Variants") these dedicated .22's are under review for classification... the argument being they only look like AR's and since they aren't actually compatible with full size AR's they should not be classified as AR Variants.

They also don't have the quality of barrel that we're talking about on the Spike ST-22 (which uses Green Mountain barrels) and which are quite accurate.

I just got mine yesterday (ST-22) and could never be happier. I can now plan on putting together a 5.56 top end and just drop it in. In the meantime, I can shoot all I want in the indoor range and save a lot at the same time...

If You would follow the price of this rifle on their website the one thing comes to mind.
Waves.
It was like $1300 some time ago, later on sale for $1000 and now $1500 despite the rising loonie.
Well...it's nice to have a choice I guess.

Actually... priced at $1,234.13 they went on sale for a short time for $1,100.00 and are now back to $1,234.13

Any idea if I can remove the chamber adapter off my cmmg .22 conversion kit and use it with a spikes dedicated .22 barrel? Build my own upper with spare parts kind of thing?
