Might sound like a weird question but, over the last couple years it seems like everyone and their brother are on the Russian (and Chinese) SKS bandwagon.

What is the supply situation? Is there still a large number availabe in Russia to import?

All surplus has its own cycle. Boatloads of them this week, gone the next week. This week belongs to the SKS rifle. Jump on it or miss out. next week, maybe nothing...

Let us see now. The eastern block and china produced weapons to face the west. How many rifles do you think there is when the Chinese Army was in the Millions? And the Chinese population was well over a billion?

Simple math tells us there are millions of these rifles and lately better quality ones are coming out.

I would wager, We will still have supply for more than 10 years but prices are sure to go up slightly because of cost of shipping and inflation. I feel like the East is dumping these rifles. The prices are already so low that they have no where to go but up.

Edit the question we should be asking is whether or not the Canadian market is saturated and when will importers stop importing them because no one wants to buy them anymore. I already have 4 SKSs each from a different country I sencerly doubt buying anymore of them. Unless someone imports a supply from yet another country that I don't have one from.

Don't pay much attention to world events,I see. The availabilty of surplus arms has hit it's high tide, and is on the way down. Ever hear of the UN,and there cash for destroying small arms program? You might want to check into it.

Instaed of buying 'another SKS' buy a case of ammo. The guns never wear out but the ammo will one day become rarer than rockin horse poo. 1 SKS per 5 cases of ammo seems about right. Youll always be able to sell ammo, but no ones going to buy a gun they cant get ammo for.

Although the advice is sound, it'll be a long time before we run out of surplus for one of the most used cartridges in the entire world. I'd bet money on a future leftist government blocking importation of it long before the former communist bloc runs out of x39 to sell to us.

With that said, by all means stack it deep! I do.

Seeing how most countries that used and made 7.62x39 have quite using it it quite likely that eventually it will run out but there's at least 8-10 years before that happens but when that happens there still 5.45x9 and 7.62x54r and maybe the Chinese 5.8 round? That would be cool according to the Chinese it's better then any other cartridge ever invented and then some

and even if we run out of 7.62x39 surplus there allways the cheap commercial stuff like in the states in almost cheaper to buy new made ammo 4.29$ for 20 round vs 3.90$ for surplus

I have no dispute with this statement, but i would add that even though its the most used round in the world, the prices and availability can still change. Money will get you pretty much most things, but how much money? As said, UN restrictions can affect ammo and not just the firearms themselves. There is also a huge influx of newly produced comercial non-corrosive ammunition on the market, but at a much more premium price. I don't think about investing so much as having what i need to shoot. The pricing of typical SKS rifles has been stable for the last few years, but ammo has doubled in price in 2 or 3 years. I picked up a mountain of ammo when it was less than 120/case.

I'm not sure I'm willing to take the Chinese at their word on that, they don't even export it. Weather that's because they have the greatest round ever made and are keeping it to themselves, or it's sub-standard and they don't want to be proven wrong the second some civilians here in Canada get their hands on it and accuracy test it, remains to be seen. Lots of propaganda comes out of China, and I don't believe it until I've seen it proven to be true. With that said, the Chinese make excellent firearms, so maybe they're onto something.

Or maybe not.

i like to buy 1 case of surplus ammo for every surplus gun i get out of a sks 1200 to 1400 rounds will last quite a while in shtf

SKS's and other combloc bolt action guns are all that is left of importable guns. WW2 european/us surplus guns all have been sold or destroyed over the last 50 years. M14 rifles are from 1957, not importable.

I love my SKS, so much I bought another to go with it. I read somewhere that the SKS is the Lee Enfield of this age. Cheap and plentiful now, but only a matter of time and there are no more left. I feel as though that our current milsurp rifles are going to be the last we see in big quantities. No way will we ever see surplus M4's, especially in Canada. So the Mosin, SVT40, SKS will be the last we get, and after that, well cheap milsurp will be dead!

No offense intended Gillan...I think you'll eat your words if you're still alive in 30 years. The M4 will no longer be thought of as threatening compared to the military weapons of 2042. However, it all depends on the politcal environment. Be sure your voices are heard not just on election day!
