Question about .357 Puma

The bullet shown is fine,Most factory ammo is fine. You just have to watch for pointed ones as the shock of firing could set off one in the tube. If you want to extend the range of your .357 try leverevolution.

You need bullets with a crimp groove for tubular magazines in order to prevent setback, so those bullets aren't suitable.

I think that the likelihood of recoil setting off rounds in the magazine is pretty low with RN bullets; pointed bullets are the ones that pose the real danger.

The Frontier bullets sold by Marstar are actually copper plated rather than jacketed.

The LeverEvolution bullets I have have a soft, pointed, plastic tip. I dont worry about it though and they have more recoil than any other .357 I have. I love these rounds.

Enjoy your Puma. I got one a couple of year ago in .357 as well and love it. I've only shot flat nosed .38 & .357s with it but that gun always put a grin on my face.

Thanks guys. Some of Marstar's frontiers have a flat point bullet that has a crimp groove, so I'll take advantage of those, and I may try to grab some leverevolution rounds for varminting. I also would love to try some federal hydroshock and remington gold sabre as well.

So things to keep in mind are: Avoid solid lead and FMJ/copper pointed slugs (rare in pistol rounds, but I have seen them) get rounds for reloading that have a crimp groove to reduce the chances of bullet setback, and with that in mind, enjoy.

I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet, mainly because I don't have ammo yet, but It looks like it will be a neat little carbine.

I picked one up a month or so ago and love it.
have only shot 357, left the 38 Specials at home by mistake. I was plesantly suprised with the accuracy, lack of recoil (actually bought it for the wife ;) ) but sure had a tough time feeding it after being used to feeding the more substantial 30-30 and 44 mag rounds into my Marlins. Sore fingers. :(
Made the mistake of buying some 357 FMJ and asked the same question. Answers varied from "NO" to "OK".
They are round nose so I think I'll give them a try soon and if I survive I'll let you know. :D

I just got a Puma .44 Mag (Nice little gun). Question? Mine has the Cats head on the side and the serial# is in the 5000 range,What year was it made?
Thanks

I got to fire mine, and here's what I found out:

I find it is a pain to reload, but then again, the Winchester 94 is the same way. However, I like how the action cycles. Its very smooth and is a light, compact carbine. I have also found that when fired with .38 specials, its recoil is virtually negligible (slightly more more that a .22 LR), and very quiet. However, .357 magnums, as expected have a louder report and obviously are higher velocity, but have greater recoil (slightly heavier than a .223 remington). Capacity is 10 rounds for .38 special and 8 for .357 magnum.

I don't like the sights, but I probably need to get used to them. However, it seems accurate for short range shooting. In addition, it really throws the brass clear of the gun thanks to its heavy extractor.

I ordered one off one of the dealers here that had these all advertised way lower than...say...wanstalls, so i went with the cheaper dealer, what i got was an old stock, cats head puma that was just ok, and so ugly I coundnt believe it, the wood fit and finish was awful, I did some checking and found out through the USA experts that it was a unit made in the early eighties, still new in box and unfired, I guess the CGN dealer was getting old stock, I told him I was displeased and he offered to get me a new one and said he hadnt opened it or looked at it, only re addressed and sent it to me.I decided against getting another from him, and contacted Gary at Wanstalls who assured me his stock was new and of better quality, for a few bucks more I got a new model, brand new Taurus/rossi and its a beauty!!

Those cats head units are terrible compatred to the new ones
