Hi all,
I just purchased a tikka 300 win mag feather light and was wondering what optic I should get for it and what power range?
I looked threw the Swarovski line of scopes and also the Zeiss line and can not decide what to get.
My budget is $3,000 or less. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get this resolved before the fall hunt this year.

Don't think you have to spend any where near your budget to get a good quality hunting scope for that rifle. If it were me I'd go with a Swaro Z3 or Zeiss HD5 in whatever mag range you prefer.

If I had a gunny-sack of money like you seem to and wanted a top notch hunting scope I would be looking at Leica or Zeiss. Board member c-fbmi has had horror show problems with Swarovski and given that I know he has the money for top notch gear yet he wouldn't use Swaro anymore then I would stay away from them too.

My issue with Euro scopes is that they (mostly) have some features that I despise in a hunting scope...namely 30mm main tubes and 40mm+ objectives. I prefer trim scopes on hunting rifles because, unlike our European counterparts, I don't sit in a box blind or stand all day waiting to wallop something that blunders by. Large objectives suitable for gazing at the rings around Uranus require the scope to be mounted higher which usually necessitates a high comb or poor cheek weld. 30mm tubes make accessing the loading port more difficult (I'm a floorplate guy, not DBM) which bothers me too. Conversely, 1" tubes and 33mm objectives tend to be lighter and less bulky which is right up my alley. 3-9x would be as powerful as I would consider for a hunting scope but that is contrary to the popular trend these days.

The good Euro companies offer some 1" scopes which would be what I would be looking at. Of course, you might really like large objectives, high power and big tubes which would significantly broaden the selection for you.
