Question about an SSA No1Mk3 Lee Enfield

Hi folks,

I have a refurbed 1917 No1Mk3*, stamped SSA (peddle scheme). Wondering about the production number from Standard Small Arms. Half a million, maybe?

What kind of a premium over a "normal" No1Mk3 would this be worth, (if any...)? I'm trying to put a price on such a rifle (matching bolt and rear sight, but not the wood or nose cap; so-so bore). I didn't rebuild it, it came to me already "reassembled"... I stripped the varnish and oiled the wood though. (Sigh... varnish...)

I can`t say much about sales premiums, Lou, but, to my way of thinking, SSA and NRF rifles both are terribly underpriced.

If we put total British production at 100 rifles, then Enfield made 60, BSA made 30, LSA made 5, NRF made 3 and SSA turned out 2. (Last two could be turned around: I don`t have the figures in front f me right now.). That`s the proportion.

SSA rifles are emphatically NOT common. I had to search literally years before finding one (on my budget, that is). Fortunately, I got one with a super bore. Just waiting for wood now.

If only I knew a bit more like that a couple of years ago - I had a really nice one, but thought it was just 'one of the millions made' and sold it... But hey, all part of the learning curve of any Lee Enfield fanatic

I'm likely going to try to accurize it, it shoots a bit low at the moment, but I do have other front sight blades; I shot only at 50 yards, next time at the range I'll shoot at 100 yards and see what she can do.

Here's another pic, just for the fun of it. I'll have to do something about that stain on the butt plate, sorry about that eye sore...

I'm not sure about Enfield prices in Canada Lou, but I can tell you this, once those round green things in your photo turn red you pick them off the vine and eat them.

But as a American I can tell you this...................












A peddle scheme tomato in the hand is worth two on the bush.
