So am I right in thinking that as longer as I maintain an overall length of >26 " I can shorten my barrel as I see fit? Then if so, can I shorten it or do I need to source a shorter commercial barrel?
Have you plugged your barrel yet? If it is tight up to the muzzel, then you may want to reconsider shortening it. I can only say that because that is what I have been told in the past.
You can shorten the barrel of a long gun, but not past 18 (.5?) inches, or else you'll be creating a prohib. The only way to go shorter is to get a factory made barrel, such as a Dlask 14inch 870 barrel.
You guys have the correct #'s, however besure to combined them...... = an overall length 26" or greater and a barrel not altered less than 18" .... You need to have both measurements taken into consideration.
