My apologies in advance if this is not the right forum for this question. I originally posted these pictures in the "Hunting and Sporting Arms" forum, but realized that the readers of this forum might have more experience looking at well-used barrels.

I just received a Tikka M65 in 30-06 and noticed that from the muzzle, each land has a sharp edge and a dull edge. The dull edge is on the trailing side of the land (i.e., the side furthest from the bullet as it travels the bore), which has me wondering whether this is bore wear or simply the style of rifling that Tikka chose. If this is bore wear, I would have thought the leading edge would dull quicker.

I'd appreciate any opinions on what I'm seeing. I've not cast the chamber/throat yet, nor have I fired the rifle for groups, but aside from the odd-looking lands, I have no other reason to think the rifle has been shot a lot. I am really just curious and would also like to increase my knowledge on the subject of bore wear.

Here are two pictures illustrating the lands at the muzzle:

Yup, ratchet rifling, although I did not know this was on those Tikkas. I suspect this is an after-market Shilen barrel.
Ratchet rifling grips bullet well and is very easy to clean. This type of rifling aka Newton parabolic rifling are very dificult to make with single hook cutting method but very easy with hammer forging method like Tikka, Sako and most other european factories are using. Shilen is using carbide button rifling method and making polygonal or common Springfield kind of rifling. Ratchet kind would be imposible to "iron out" with button properly b/c it is not symetric and rifling twist would be very irregular due to radial button twisting stress.
