I have come into possession of am old Cooey Model 39 and have some questions about the breach pictured below. It's hard to see in the pictures but the right hand side of the breach is chipped away where the bolt matches up to the breach. Is this normal on these models and more importantly is it still safe to fire? The barrell does not appear to have any damage.

That's exactly where it is, the bolt closes fine but I have not had a chance to test fire it since recieving it. It looks OK from what I can tell...though I am by no means a gun smith. I live in Waterloo so I'll likely end up taking it up to Shooter's Choice and let their gun smith take a look to be certain.

A chipped chamber on a .22 is likely the result of excessive dry firing.
