I have a new Shilen Match Select barrel chambered in 223 AI . I did a barrel brake in procedure and noticed at that time that I was not getting any copper fouling. I use M-pro 7 and Sweets to clean my guns. The barrel now has 105 rounds through it in total. My last range season was 40 rounds and when I cleaned the barrel there was no sign of copper on my patches at all. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? As far as accuracy goes the best I have been able to do is a little under an inch at 100 yards. ( this might be due to the fact that I have been fireforming 223AI from regular 223 brass. I have never had a barrel that didn't copper foul at all and was just wondering.

Match barrels tend to foul MUCH less then factory barrels , I wouldn't worry about it . Don't use copper stripper after ever range trip. An oiled patch for storage is all you need until accuracy drops off , then worry about giving the barrel a clean

I can find no sign of copper on my 223 Krueger barrel after hundreds of rounds. I see no copper, and get no blue on patches. I think it's a sign of a smooth bore.

Sign of smooth cut rifling (no machine marks on lands/groves) not a smooth bore :p slightly different things

Yes yes I'm getting technical on wording I know

If you don't see copper, something is not right. You are running a hot 223 and no barrel will not show copper with a decent copper solvent at those velocities.
How old is your sweets? It dies over time.

I have never tried M Pro 7 - and after this thread - I wont.

Have you tried something like Montana Extreme?

Can you provide more detail about your cleaning ritual?
How tight do your patches fit?
How long do you let the sweets sit between patches?

well there is nothing wrong with my Sweets as I cleaned my 300wm with it after the 223AI and the patches showed the ussual blue. I also use the M Pro 7 in all my rifles so I don't really know what that has to do with it.

No problem. Sloppy wording on my part. The barrel is on an ar15 and it shoots very well. It's a 1:7.7 twist, and it likes heavier bullets, like 69 grains and up. It will shoot ten shots under an inch at 100 yards, without waiting any additional time for cooling between shots. I have used sweets from a fresh bottle and wipeout, and there is no sign of copper, nor is there an improvement in accuracy from using these cleaners. The copper deposit must be negligible.

I tried mpro7 didnt do anything to my copper mine I had in one of my rifles. I will never use that junk. The best cleaning stuff I have found (that actually works) is otis.
