I`ve been avidly hunting coyotes weekly since December. The areas I hunt that is normally thick with coyote are now over populated with snow geese, Canada geese and ducks. I thought for sure the coyotes would be out in full force trying to catch one. Its almost like they went into hiding instead. They must not bother at all with the waterfowl??? Or do they???

I know a few guys that have shot a few coyotes that were stalking they decoy spread.

I don't think a coyote would be successful very often. Geese are the best at spotting danger before it gets close.

I've shot couple of coyotes over turkey decoys in spring. I don't see a lot of geese in locations that offer a lot of cover for stalking up close to them.

I had a friend shoot two of them last fall as they tried to sneak up to his goose decoys, he was pass shooting over some river water and the decoys were placed on the water's edge and shoreline....coyotes will try to catch anything they think will fill them up...

I spoke with a farmer tilling a field with a bunch of seagulls feeding on the upturned worms/insects. The coyote lay motionless until the tractor and seagulls got just close enough for him to pounce....said he saw the coyote leap 4ft and catch one mid-air as it was flying away.

I've seen seagull remains in areas of yotes as well...very opportunisitic. They also eat the not so elusive "apple" from fall frost all through the winter here. Their scat is all over local trails and rich in apple skin and seeds.

Could it be they won't respond to your calls because their have full bellies from the easy picking? The same behavior happens around early deer season as they fill-up on deer guts.

This time of year yotes have bellies full of dopey hibernates... They arte hard to call in... Just keep trying... A yote this time of year wull likely have s hitty pelt btw...
